HOW DO YOU RECEIVE THE INFORMATION YOUR FAVORITE PLACES WANT TO SEND TO YOU?
Email. In order for someone to send you an email, they must have your email address. To read your emails, you log into your email inbox.
BENEFITS OF EMAIL:
- Everyone understands email because almost everyone participates in the exchange of email.
- It's simple to log into your inbox and read all of your messages at once.
DOWNSIDES OF EMAIL:
- As long as someone has your email address, they can send you email – even if you haven't given them permission to send it to you.
- Once your email address has started to be handed out to spammers, it can be difficult to get it stopped. It's critical that you are with an email service provider that filters spam well.
HOW YOU CAN READ EMAIL:
- By logging into your inbox in a browser.
- By logging into your inbox through an application on your computer, cell phone, iPad, Kindle Fire, or other Internet-enabled device.
RSS Feeds. RSS feeds allow websites that are programmed to do so to give their readers (subscribers) the ability to get all of their latest updates in a single spot – their RSS reader. An RSS reader could be compared to an inbox. The RSS feed update could be compared to receiving an email containing the newest article.
Today, RSS reader accounts are often associated with your email address, and once you have your email address, you already have an RSS reader account even if you don't use it.
Here are some of the reader options available to you if you subscribe to the Scrap Girls Blog RSS Feed.
BENEFITS OF RSS FEEDS:
- No one is able to get your RSS reader's address so it is virtually impossible to receive spam messages via RSS reader.
- It's simple to open your RSS reader and read all of the websites that you have subscribed to at once. In some ways, it is easier to read RSS feeds than to read email.
- Reading your favorite blogs becomes as easy and relaxing as reading a newspaper.
DOWNSIDES OF RSS FEEDS:
- A lot of people don't know how to use them. Because they don't know how to use them, they feel intimidated.
HOW YOU CAN READ RSS FEEDS:
- By logging into your RSS reader account in a browser.
- By logging into your RSS reader account through an application on your computer, cell phone, iPad, Kindle Fire, or other Internet-enabled device.
- By reading the RSS feed in an email. (Some websites offer the option of getting their feed updates via email. You can subscribe to Scrap Girls Blog RSS feed this way. If you choose to do this, you'll receive an email with the latest post in your inbox.)
ABOUT RSS FEEDS AND READERS
Question: How do I know if a website or a blog offers an RSS feed?
Answer: Look for the RSS symbol. You'll usually find it at the top right-hand side of the page. Here are a few variants of an RSS symbol:
Question: How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?
Answer: Here's what you do:
Look for the RSS symbol. You will find it at the top of the right-hand column in the Scrap Girls Blog; simply click on it.
Choose which RSS reader you wish to use.
Once you have chosen the reader, you will be taken to your reader's home page. Because I chose the Google Reader, I was asked whether I want to add the RSS feed to my Google home page or if I want to add it to my Google Reader account. You will usually select the reader account option.
Question: How do I use the RSS reader to read the blogs I have subscribed to?
Answer: If I want to use my Google RSS Reader to read the blogs I subscribe to in a browser, I log into my Google account and select the "More" menu item, then I select "Reader" in the drop-down menu. Here's what that looks like:
Once I am in the Google RSS Reader window, I see a list of websites I have subscribed to in the left-hand column. When I click on one of them, I see the articles posted in the main RSS Reader. I can then scroll through the posts.
If I want to read a different feed from a different blog I have subscribed to, I click on the name of the feed and its posts will appear in the main RSS Reader.
Question: You mentioned that you can read RSS feeds on a cell phone, iPad, or other Internet mobile device. How does that work?
Answer: Before I explain this, I need to tell you that Google has become the powerhouse of RSS feeds. This means that most RSS feeder applications work with Google Reader accounts. The easiest thing to do is to set up a Google account – even if you choose not to use it for email.
To get your RSS feed subscriptions on your mobile device, you need to download and install an RSS feeder from your device's application store. A great RSS reader for the iPhone or iPad is Feeddler. This is the reader I personally use the most.
The Android market has lots of RSS reader options. Just search for "RSS reader" and then read the reviews to pick out the reader you wish to use.
Once you have installed the RSS reader application on your device, open it. You'll be asked to provide your reader account's email address and password. If you choose to let your application remember that information, you won't have to enter it again. Just open your RSS reader application and you're ready to enjoy your blogs!
Question: You said that if we don't want to use an RSS reader, we can get the new articles from the Scrap Girls Blog delivered to us through emails. Tell me about that.
Answer: The sign-up to receive Scrap Girls Blog posts via email is the second item in the right-hand column of the Scrap Girls Blog. Just enter your email address, hit the Submit button, and you're ready to enjoy receiving lots of great information!

Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 10am MT for the East Coast High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week.
On April 11th, we're doing a Humor Challenge! Use a funny photo, tell a funny story, or share a family inside joke! Show your sense of humor on your page!

April's Forum Game: BINGO!
Join us for an exciting game of Springtime BINGO on the Message Board Forum in April! Pick 25 words from the list provided in the forum game thread and send them in an email to [email protected] with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your Scrap Girls Message Board username" by Tuesday, April 3rd at Midnight MDT in order to play in the first round. The first round will begin on Wednesday, April 4th. If you miss the first round deadline, you can still play! Just send in your BINGO card at any time during the month, and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts.
Each day, a member of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the BINGO list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call "BINGO!" in the game thread to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards will be cleared and a new round will begin the following day.
Each winner will receive a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!
