How to Have a Heart Attack (Method 1)

Step 1: Buy an 8G storage card for your camera.

Step 2: Take a year's worth of photos.

Step 3: Take the card out of your camera.

Step 4: Put the card in a card reader.

Step 5: Insert the card reader in a USB computer port.

Step 6: Wait for the computer to recognize the card so that you can import the photos.

Step 7: Wait some more.

Step 8: Decide that the USB port has gone bad. Move the card reader to several different USB ports to see if you can get the computer to recognize the card.

Step 9: Take the card out of the card reader and put it back in the camera.

Step 10: Decide to import the photos the hard way by moving them via a connection cord.

Step 11: Look in your office for the camera's connection cord.

Step 12: Look in your bedroom for the connection cord.

Step 13: Go into your 27-year-old son's room to see if, by chance, he borrowed the cord.

Step 14: Do the unthinkable and open his dresser drawers.

Step 15: Find a mysterious bottle of pills, dating back to 2009, with the name of the patient torn off.

Step 16: Take the bottle of pills to the computer to Google the medicine he was taking.

Step 17: Discover that the pills are the antibiotic the son was supposed to have finished when he had pneumonia.

Step 18: Realize that your son never told you that he had pneumonia.

Step 19: Wonder why your son didn't tell you that he had pneumonia.

Step 20: Remember that this particular son would rather pluck out his eyebrows than admit he is sick.

Step 21: Go back downstairs and sit in front of the computer.

Step 22: Stare at the computer.

Step 23: Stare at the camera.

Step 24: Stare at the computer.

Step 25: Decide to reboot the computer.

Step 26: Notice that there is a Windows update that will install when you power off the computer.

Step 27: Watch the Windows update start update 1.

Step 28: Notice that the updating process is stalled on update 1.

Step 29: Get out laptop.

Step 30: Start laptop.

Step 31: Unsuccessfully Google the search term, "Windows 7 update stalls."

Step 32: Decide to go rogue and force the computer to restart.

Step 33: Push the computer's power button and hold it down to the count of ten.

Step 34: Take in a big breath of air and push the power button again.

Step 35: Read the message, "Windows is configuring your computer."

Step 36: See the computer reboot itself.

Step 37: Read the message, "Windows is configuring your computer."

Step 38: Locate the half-eaten box of chocolate raisins you have hidden in an office drawer.

Step 39: Stuff the remaining contents of the box of raisins into your mouth.

Step 40: See the user login appear.

Step 41: Warily choose your user name.

Step 42: Sigh with relief to see your normal desktop open in front of your eyes.

Step 43: Pull the camera storage card out of the camera.

Step 44: Put the storage card into the card reader and insert a USB port.

Step 45: Sigh with relief when the red light on the card reader signals that it is working.

Step 46: Do a jig when the computer signals that it has located the reader.

Step 47: Cheer when a dialogue comes up, asking you what you want to do next.

Step 48: Select the correct software title and import the photos.

Step 49: Open the folder holding all of the photos and admire all of the life it bears witness to.

Step 50: Hit your head when you realize that you now have 2.9 GB – 401 photos – to file!

Tips from the Pros

Creating a Recipe Card

Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 with Windows 7

I have a lot of men in my life, which necessitates a lot of cooking! One thing that I love using my digital scrapbooking supplies for is making recipe cards that I can share with friends and family.

Scrap Girls has some great recipe card templates in the Boutique. For this example, I am using a card from ScrapSimple Digital Layout Album Templates: 4x6 Cook It by Angie Briggs.

Digital Scrapbooking Layout Tutorial Screenshot: Open layout template.

Once you have opened the card you want to use, save and re-name it so that you don't change the original template. Then, open a paper and drag it over to your card. I am using a paper from my Farmer's Bounty Collection. A 12x12-inch paper will be kind of large for a 4x6-inch recipe card, so you will need to hold your mouse on one of the paper corners and pull it inward to resize the paper smaller. If you hold the Shift key while you grab a corner and pull it inward, this will hold the proportions of the paper and keep it from looking stretched.

After you've resized your paper, make sure it is above the layer you would like it to fill. Select Ctrl+G to "clip" it to that layer (or select "Group with Previous" from the Layer menu). For this example, I used a darker paper for the upper/lower border layer so that it would act like "brackets" containing my layout. I'm going to color the other layers in lighter shades for ease of reading but will stay with a warm color palette to reflect the peach pie theme of this recipe card.

Digital Scrapbooking Layout Tutorial Screenshot: Clip digital paper to the background layer.

Keep in mind that you don't have to use papers and clipping masks for all the layers. You can use the Paint Bucket Tool as well. First, bring over some of embellishments you want to use that will support your theme. I am using elements from Farmer's Bounty Collection and my Home Canning Embellishments Biggie. After clicking on the "Set Foreground Color" Tool in the side bar, use the Eyedropper Tool to sample a color in one of the embellishments. Then make sure the layer you want to recolor is highlighted in the Layers Palette; select the Paint Bucket Tool and click on your layout to fill in the color. Here, I sampled a blue color in the scale and then used the Paint Bucket Tool for the border layer. The blue works well here because blue is the complementary color of orange.

Digital Scrapbooking Layout Tutorial Screenshot: Use the Paint Bucket Tool to fill selected layers.

Next, pick your font. I don't know about you, but I have trouble seeing sometimes. If the font is too curly or ornate, I have to squint to tell if it reads as 3 cups or 8 cups! Below is an example of a font that is difficult to read:

Digital Scrapbooking Layout Tutorial Screenshot: Font is difficult to read.

By choosing a simple font and using a color that contrasts well with your background, you will create a card that will be used and handed down through the family for years to come!

Digital Scrapbooking Layout Tutorial Screenshot: Font is clear and easy to read.

Games

July Message Board Game: Summer Scavenger Hunt!

Dust off those thinking caps and hunting boots! We're having a Summer Scavenger Hunt, and you're invited! Join us for the July Message Board Game, where each Monday through Saturday during the month of July, a member of the Welcoming Committee will post a clue in the official game thread. The clue will describe a product from the Scrap Girls Boutique. To participate, search the Boutique for the product and post a link to the product page in the official game thread.

But wait, there's more! In a new twist to the scavenger hunt game, on certain days you will be sent to the Scrap Girls Gallery to look for layouts using specific products or collections, and then post a link to your layout comment in the official game thread.

Three winners will be drawn from all the members who correctly identify a product or find Gallery layouts throughout the month. Each winner will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Good luck in your search!

For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Forum.

Contests

July Monthly Layout Contest: As the United States celebrates its independence this month, we'd love to see some examples of how you've gained independence! For July's Monthly Layout Contest, show us your layouts featuring someone displaying independence! It could be a toddler learning independence or a young person out on their own for the first time. You could even scrap about a time you displayed some independence! Be sure to include some journaling to support your photos. Post your layouts in the July Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MT on July 31st. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen winners, you will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Stop! Before you unsubscribe... Did you know we have a Weekly Round-Up newsletter?

This action-packed newsletter is sent out on Tuesday afternoons and summarizes what has happened in the past week. It's perfect for people who feel that they are too busy to read the daily editions! If you would like to receive our Round Up Newsletter, scroll to the bottom of this email and use the "Update Profile/Email Address" option to join the Round Up list and/or change your subscription options to our newsletters.

Of course, the Weekly Round Up Newsletter contains a fresh, new freebie, so even if you like to get the daily newsletters, you might want to join the Weekly Round-Up Newsletter, too. It's a great way to keep track of all of the fun things you are learning!
