The Best Time Management Trick I've Ever Learned
Attention, work-a-holics: I learned a time management trick this week that is helping me reclaim the life I thought was gone forever. It's so obvious, and yet I had missed it because I was still locked into the old "have to be at work and appear busy for eight hours (or more) a day" mentality.
Stop thinking about how much time you spend working. Instead, plan* which projects or tasks you want to complete during any given day. Once your goals are completed, stop working. Back away from the computer and do something else.
So simple. So sweet. So effective. If you are like me, you'll suddenly find that you're getting more done and will have time left over in your day for family, friends, and fun.
A balanced life. What a concept!
Repeat after me: I am not a slacker if I don't work 12 hours a day.
* Note: This trick will not work if you insist on putting overly ambitious goals on your daily list. Break up big goals into chunks and work on them one at a time. If you do, you'll get a ton more done in far less time.
When I don't work too much, I have time to do this:
This is the first time my granddaughter – Baylee – "swam."
Commercial license versions of Kiddie Christmas Collection are also available.
Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.
Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

Making a Bottle Caddy
Note: Tutorial created using Photoshop CS3 with a PC
Are you ever struck by a great idea when you least expect it? I sure was a couple months ago when walking down the aisles of my local grocery store. I noticed a little carton of frappuccino bottles and immediately thought of how cute it could be if I altered it with my digital scrapbooking supplies.
I'm a good one for coming up with hybrid (part digital, part traditional) project ideas, then "collecting" instead of using the supplies. This time I made myself follow through on it and finish the project. When Keri Schueller's July Scrap Girls Club arrived, I knew I had a great choice to decorate my carton.
First, I measured the front, sides, and center of the carton. Then I designed digital scrapbooking layouts for each piece. I used an adhesive remover to take off the coffee sticker from each bottle. Next, I designed labels for the sides and top of each bottle.
I printed the pieces, cut them out, and moved my production to the garage. There I sprayed one piece at a time with spray adhesive, then quickly and carefully positioned it on the carton or bottle and smoothed it down. I have always found spray adhesive to be more reliable than liquid glues, as they tend to be wetter and buckle even heavier papers, causing unsightly bubbling. The spray adhesive even allowed me to unstick and reposition a paper that was slightly crooked as long as I repositioned it right away. It also stuck to the glass of the bottles quite well.
For the side panels, I designed a taller rectangular piece, then cut away the excess paper at the top using a craft knife after adhering the paper to the carton.
My last step was to add a variety of pretty ribbons to the handle of the caddy. See, I told you I'd find a use for some of those traditional scrapbook supplies someday! I plan to store my non-digital buttons, paper flowers, and other notions and doo-dads in my brand new caddy.
These four products are included in this month's Scrap Girls Club offering. Members receive a substantial discount on these club supplies. They are also available elsewhere in the Boutique at regular prices for those individuals who would rather not join a club.
