For several years now I have skipped the traditional New Year’s resolutions and replaced it with a single word. This word serves as a mantra of sorts. A guide word that helps me take small steps or actions towards my goals throughout the year. This is a great way to avoid that feeling of letting yourself down when you don’t end up completing your resolutions. Resolutions that, after a few months, may not even make sense for what’s happening in your life.
By choosing one word to focus on and inspire you, you can plan, change, and adapt your actions, goals, and steps throughout the year to fit what’s happening in your life at the moment. I like to think we are all ‘works in progress’ and that means flexibility is key in what we set out to do. Personally, I have learned not to expect too much of myself. That my plans, goals, and priorities are constantly changing so trying to force myself to complete all the goals I set at the beginning of the year doesn’t make sense.
Choosing a word for the year has become a popular trend in recent years and I think a positive and affirming one. But, as with anything, choosing a word for the year can become overwhelming, that ‘search’ for the perfect word to encompass a whole year’s worth of steps and actions. Keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be a huge statement. Think of it as a guiding word, something that inspires you to embrace your goals, whether it’s a simple step or more complex goal.
This year I created a worksheet that might help choose a word and ways to embrace the word once we’ve chosen it. I haven’t completed mine yet – I hope to have my word by January 1st, but if it takes until the middle of the month that’s OK too!
I hope this free printable will help you not only come up with a word to inspire your year, but help you find ways to embrace it all year long! I would love to know what word you choose, please share in the comments below!

Looking for products to help embrace your word? Once you have a word picked out you can do a search in the SG shop and more than likely find a kit or two with your word. If not, look for editable templates and products where you can edit the text. Here are just a few products that might help:
