The ability to paste Lorem Ipsum placeholder text has been around for awhile in the type menu. But now you can have it automatically placed when using the type tool. Why would you want to do that you might be asking? I use it all the time and here are a few ways I find it helpful:
1- For me the creation of a layout and the journaling are two very different things. Putting together the actual layout uses the artistic side of my brain, while the journaling uses the more academic side. So I find that if I try to do the journaling while or even right after creating the layout it just doesn’t work. The journaling doesn’t flow or tell the story of what’s going on in my photos. So instead, as I create the layout I add placeholder or ‘dummy’ text to the layout so that I can come back at a later time to do the journaling.
2- I think of the placeholder text as another element of my page. If I am not worried about the journaling I can focus on the layout of the photos, elements and text as part of the overall design.
3- If you like creating layout sketches placeholder text makes it super easy to add areas for text into your sketch.
4- It also works great for any sort of mock-ups you create, such as a family newsletter.
5- You can add it to shape layers and use as a decoration on your page. For example creating a circle shape and filling with placeholder text. You can come back later and add a quote, poem, or song lyrics.
Those are just a few uses for this helpful feature!
To enable Lorem Ipsum placeholder text when creating new type layers on your documents choose Edit > Preferences > Type. Check the Fill new type layers with placeholder text box.
STEP BY STEP:
1- Open or create page or sketch.
2- Get the Rectangle tool. In the Options Bar choose Path.
3- Drag out a box with desired size and shape for text placement.
4- Get the Type tool and select Font, font size, and color.
5- Click inside the box or shape and your placeholder text will appear. (You should see your text cursor change to a circular shape as you hover over and inside your shape.)
You can add text inside or on top of a shape or custom shape easily!
1- Create your shape, in this case I created a ellipse shape. Get the Type tool, and drag our your shape. Make sure the shape tool is set to ‘Path’ in the Options bar. It does work with Shape layers but I prefer to use the Path option unless I am wanting a matte under my text.

2- Then get the Type tool, and click inside the shape to add the placeholder text. So easy!
Please let me know if you have other ways you use the placeholder text feature. I would love to know!
