I love decorating and altering paper templates. I am particularly attracted to dress templates. For the Operation Write Home Blog post I created a couple of cards by turning Brandy Murray’s Old Hollywood Embellishment Biggie into a template that I could easily alter with my Scrap Girls digital scrapbooking products and a few paper embellishments. It was a lot of fun so I created some more cards using the same techniques.
Supplies List:
Digital Scrapbooking Supplies
Scissors
Paper – Linen card stock
Adhesive – two sided tape, glue dots
Embellishments – Gelly Roll Pens, glitter, small flowers, stickers, small gears & bits from my husband’s hardware stash, charms, jewelry findings.
Instructions
Step 1 – Open the embellishment of your choice in your photo editing software. I use PSE 11. Copy and hide the embellishment layer (in case you need to go back). Save with a new file name. Cut the template apart with your marquee tool by selecting an area (like the head – right click and choose layer via cut).
Step 2 – Recolor each layer of the template with the paint bucket tool to make it easier to visually separate your template. Attach digital scrapbooking papers to each layer (ctrl G).
Step 3 – Create several digital layouts from your template. Open a blank 8.5 x 11 document. To create two 5.5” x 4.25” cards set guidelines at 4.25” vertical and 5.5” horizontal (view, new guide). Reset your layout display to all columns. Drag your template layers onto the blank document. Resize as needed. Center each template on the right half of the document, add sentiment or word art, print. Open a new blank 8.5 x 11 document that you will use to print your template layers. Drag the resized layers onto this document.
Step 4 – Use your Silhouette Cameo to print and cut out the layers of your template (or print and cut the layers with scissors). See – Create a Print and Cut Card with Digital Scrapbook Supplies and Silhouette.
Step 5 – Distress edges of your cut out template layers with ink. Place template layers onto printed card front with two sided tape. Embellish as desired.
We would love to see how you use your digital scrapbooking supplies to create your own templates. Post them in the Scrap Girls Hybrid Gallery.
Live each day creatively,
Karen
