Printable Tea Bag Card Tutorial

Card Stash 101

The start of a new year is a good time to get a card stash started (or replenished), using my digital scrapbooking products as well as traditional craft supplies!  I have a little basket that holds a collection of cards with various themes that are ready and waiting to be used to bless someone’s day. I like to keep on hand a few birthday cards (both masculine and feminine), sympathy, get well, thank you, praying for you, and thinking of you cards. I often will leave the inside sentiment blank so that I can personalize the card according to the need and occasion. Throughout the year I’ll be adding ideas to this ‘Card Stash’ theme, so be sure to watch the Scrap Girls Blog for further updates to this topic.

For the first card in this series, I’d like to share how to make these cute printable Tea Bag Cards.

I love the idea of tucking a little something into a card to let the recipient know they are special; and this little tea bag card gives just such an opportunity.

Supplies needed:
Card stock printed with one of your favorite digital scrapbooking papers
Copy paper or vellum printed with a coordinating Scrap Girls paper
Embellishments that coordinate with your papers
Edge punch or decorative scissors
Small hole or ribbon punch
Matching ribbon, lace or twine (about 12 inches per teabag holder)
Glue or adhesive

Instructions:
Step 1 – Cut your printed cardstock 3 x 7 inches. Score at 3.25 inches and 3.75 inches. Fold at score lines so the printed side is facing outside, and burnish with bone folder or the rounded side of a spoon.

Step 2 – Centered on each end, use the ribbon punch, or punch 2 small holes so that thin ribbon can be threaded through.Teabag-Card-Tutorial-2

Step 3 – Cut your printed copy paper or vellum 3.5 x 7 inches. Score ¼ inch on top and bottom of the long 7 inch side. This will form the seam for the sleeve for your tea bag. Turn to the 3 inch side and score at 3.25 inches and 3.75 inches just like you did for the cardstock. Fold the ¼ inch score lines so unprinted sides are facing together.  Fold at the score 3.25 inches and 3.75 inches lines so that the printed side is facing inside. Use an edge punch on the 3 inch edge of both sides. If you are using decorative scissors instead of an edge punch, you will be removing about ¼ inch on each end.

Step 4 – Glue the center vellum to the inside center of the cardstock. Run a very thin bead of glue, or your favorite adhesive, along the top and bottom edge of the cardstock to glue the vellum ¼ inch seam folds in place; leaving a ‘pocket opening’ on the 3 inch edges to slide your tea bag in.

Step 5 – Using your embellishments of choice, decorate the front cover of your tea bag envelope. If you are using printed embellishments from your digital scrapbooking kits, the front cover measures 3 x 3.25 inches so you will want to scale your embellishments to fit on the cover. Since there will be some bulk with the tea bags, I would suggest not using a dimensional  embellishment on the tea bag holder.

Step 6 – You are now ready to slide your special tea bags into their pockets

Step 7 – Thread your ribbon, twine or lace through the back side of your ribbon holes, up through the front of the ribbon holes and tie a bow.

With your left over printed cardstock, you can make a standard A2 card (4.24 x 5.5 inches) to slip in your little ‘gift packet’ of tea which is sure to bless someone’s day!
