I attending my Family Reunion this summer and came away with a lot of photos that I wanted to get down on the page quickly. I figured using templates was the quickest way to make a photo-full family reunion layout fast.
What’s not to love about a fun mixture of graphic, geometric, and lush floral templates with some grungy blending masks added for good measure! September’s ScrapSimple Club: Touch of Modern by Ginny Whitcomb and Angie Briggs is all of the above – and it’s easily going to be a go-to collection for all your “endless summer fun” pictures!
I loved all of the individual elements in the club, but it wasn’t until I started playing with them that I really understood how they worked together. After all, it isn’t often that you get grunge, graphic, and floral all in one package. I found the collection to be a bit like modern life – or like my family – a little bit of everything, different styles, that all work together beautifully.
So, how do you get it all to work together? It’s all about layers. I started with pictures from a recent extended family reunion and began clipping pictures to one of the geometric templates. Then I placed one of the grunge masks in the background and used it to blend a picture into the background. I love the juxtaposition between the orderly squares and the irregular mask.

After getting my little pictures and background pictures placed, all the page needed was a background paper, a few embellishments, and a title. For the background paper, I blended one of the beautiful leaf templates from this club with a paper from the Seize the Day Collection.
