When you started working on your club, what was the first thing you did?
Freaked out! LOL I usually get a bit stressed out when I begin working on a club. Especially the ScrapSimple club, it’s hard to come up with something I haven’t done before. Then I start doing a really rough sketch of my ideas and write down notes in a notebook. I don’t spend much time on the sketches I do by hand because I know I will be recreating them in Illustrator. I also am very messy when I make notes! You know the saying “A creative mind is seldom tidy”! That’s what I use for my excuse for a lot of things, like my messy desk! LOL
What inspired the colors in your club?
The colors weren’t as important since it is a ScrapSimple club but I knew I wanted something bright and cheerful for the Nano kit and marketing. After an unusually cold Winter and 2 snow storms I was more than ready to welcome Spring. I also created a swatch for the Woodlandia Paper & Embellishment templates that I thought was fun!
Where did you find the inspiration for this club?
I decided I was going to draw EVERYTHING for the club in Illustrator. So I started by looking through my Dad’s flower and nature photographs. I found many flowers and squirrels which I based some of my drawings on. Debbie (our Scrap Girls President) had suggested a squirrel, since I had never drawn one before I was happy to find a few squirrel images in my Dad’s photo stash! LOL
I also looked at vintage images of flowers and banners which inspired more flowers and the banners you see in the Woodlandia Brush Set and Among the Wildflowers Embellishment set. Once I started drawing the flowers I was on a roll and had a hard time stopping! LOL I was partially inspired to draw the little fawn by my Chaweenie, Maggie. When she curls up she looks like a little deer!
The club includes several products. Did you start and complete each one before moving on to the next?
HA! I think I have mentioned many times over the years that I jump around a LOT when designing. I did have to reign myself in finally because I felt like I was never going to complete a product, so I focused and completed the Brush Set first.
What was your favorite thing to design?
That is tough! I would say, it’s between the Among the Flowers & Woodlandia Embellishment template sets.
About how long did it take you to design this club?
This club took much longer to design than I had thought it would since I drew everything. Which is NOT something I want to do again for a club in the near future! LOL I am guessing that once I really actually got started it took a month to a month and a half. But I put in a lot of extra design hours during that time that I don’t usually work.
I really wanted to design products that would not only work well for layout but for cards, stationery and invites as well!
I hope you enjoy using this club!
