When you started working on the club, what was the first thing you did?
I usually start by looking through photos, magazines, Pinterest and my idea file. I keep an idea file on my computer where I continually collect random things that inspire me; like quotes, color swatches, photos, home decor – pretty much anything that catches my eye!

What inspired the colors in your club?
Picking the color palette for my club is always the hardest step for me. I have a TERRIBLE time narrowing down my color choices! LOL When I start my design process I gather my ideas onto a ‘Mood/inspiration board’ and that’s where I pull the colors from to create my Club color swatch.

Where did you find the inspiration for this club?
As I mentioned above I pull inspiration from many sources and create a inspiration board. I also keep a notebook handy to keep track of all the products I am working on; along with notes and sketches, fabric and texture swatches, and anything else that inspires me.
I have loved painting and collage since I was a young girl and wish I could just sit and paint all day! So for this club I really wanted to set my love of paint and collage into motion. I seem to always start out a little too ambitious when it comes to my clubs, and I have so many ideas and sketches swirling around in my head in the beginning it’s hard to contain them all. As time wears on though, I have to rein myself in and try to focus on just a fraction of those ideas! I just keep imagining Tim Gun saying:
Notice the inspiration photo below of a Hostel? I was instantly drawn to this photo because of the colors, but then the bike hanging from the left side of the Hostel caught my eye. LOVE that they used an old bike for a ‘Rent A Bike’ sign! So clever! This is what inspired the bicycle in my JIF Plus kit. You just never know where inspiration will come from!
I bet you can guess what the quilt below inspired? LOL My Honeycomb collage paper!

The club includes several products. Did you start and complete each one before moving on to the next?
Heck no! LOL! I am ALL over the place and proud of it! Life is too short and complicated to ‘stay within the lines’.
I always, always start with the papers first, because they are my canvas. I create all the papers for all the club products and then move on to the embellishments. But more often than not I get sidetracked. For example; I had started in on the JIF Plus kit but ended up creating the blue painted alpha before I finished the JIF!
What was your favorite thing to design?
Oh gosh that is too hard! LOL! I guess my most favorite thing to design was the Altered Life Embellishment Mini because I created some really fun collage elements like the house, tree and painted paper flowers. And I LOVE how the heart and hexagon embellishment clusters turned out!
BUT, I am also so happy with how my hexagon, painted butterfly and triangle papers came together! Yep! It’s too hard to EVER narrow anything down to just one! Imagine being asked to eat only one M&M!
If you could pick one word to describe your club, what would it be?
Oh boy, that’s tough…When I look at this club all put together I guess I think of the words ‘handmade’ and ‘happy’ because it’s handmade and it just makes me happy to look at it! LOL
How did you come up with the name of your club?
It really just kind of named itself… it has a lot of altered elements and scrapbooking is all about ‘LIFE’ so it just fit perfectly.
Altered Life products available as the club offering for the month of August here. When you sign up for the club you receive BONUS items not available in the Boutique.
