Behind the Scenes: Doris Castle’s February Club!

february 2014 club graphicEach month we get a glimpse behind the scenes of our Scrap Girls Club designers, and this month’s designer is Doris Castle!

When you started working on your club, what was the first thing you did?

I was excited when I knew I would be designing the February ScrapGirls Club. Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays to let people know how much I care and to have an opportunity to show my love. To get myself in the mood, I got out candles, strawberries and of course, this was a great excuse to sample some of my favorite candies, such as heart-shaped sugary lollipops!

What inspired the colors in your club?

I knew I wanted to include the traditional colors of Valentine’s Day – red and pink. With three girls, I love girly and swirly designs and colors. I also wanted to include other colors to be able to use the collection for more boy projects. I added some blue and orange to contrast with the feminine side of the palette.

The club includes several products. Did you start and complete each one before moving on to the next?

Now that I had my colors chosen, I thought about types of patterns and ideas for embellishments. First I started with the papers, I love damask, toile and fancy flourishes – but was trying to make it versatile enough for not so girl-oriented projects so I added some brick designs. I also wanted to add some sweetness, so a couple of lollipops satisfied the sweet spot.

If you could pick only one word to describe your club, what would that word be?

Sweet!

JIF Plus: Love So Sweet

How did you come up with the name of your club?

Because I thought it was sweet, from the colors and fun and sassy embellishments, and that it was centered around the theme of Love. So I put it together for Love So Sweet!

What was your favorite thing to design?

I really enjoyed creating the Watercolors Paper Mini. I like painting the backgrounds and imagining the types of layout and photos that they could showcase. I also like getting a little crazy creating the Masks & More Embellishment Mini. Using the patterns together to create a whole new look was totally fun. They will bring a vibrant energy to layouts and projects.

I really enjoyed creating the JIF Album and the Easy Page Pro Album because it is always amazing to see all the parts and pieces come together in a meaningful way to create layouts that share memories and stories of love.
