Since I returned from an Art Journaling Retreat held in Santa Fe, NM in September, my mind has been overflowing with ideas to share with you! I definitely had difficulty choosing which one to start with… I decided to add on to a technique I presented to you in my last tutorial: Using Digital Scrapbooking Supplies as Image Transfers using Sheer Heaven.
This technique really comes in handy when you don’t want to glue and paste something into your art journal and you want a painterly representation of your image.
In this tutorial I will be using the house embellishment from the Altered Life Embellishment Mini set.
Create a new file the size of your journal page. Open & duplicate the image & move the duplicate over to your journal sized page. Resize the image to your liking. The key to getting the image ready for the Sheer Heaven transfer is to run the image through Brandy Murry’s ScrapSimple Tools – Actions: Silhouettes. Click on the custom action, then continue. It will take you to the filter window. To bring the image into view, left click on the left window, then click fit in view. Click on Stamp. You can adjust the light/dark & the smoothness with the provided sliders.
Click ok.
Now you can add the text or word art.
Open a new 8.5 x 11 file, bring your image over and duplicate it if you want. Click on image, image rotation, flip canvas horizontal.
Your image is now ready to print on Sheer Heaven. Put the SH into the printer so that it will print on the dull side. Use the photo paper setting on your printer.
Cut out your image as close to the edges as you can, leaving a small tab to hold on to. Transfer to your journal page following these directions:

Now it’s time to bring out your paints, water colors or markers! Since I am going to transfer the text on to the background sky, I will make sure the medium I use does not have a wax or an acrylic base. Pan water colors are ink are fine.
Now you can keep on painting and adding detail until your page tells you it is finished!
This is such a fun technique! You can virtually paint any embellishment into your art journal without glueing or pasting, & add your own personal artistic style!
I would LOVE to see what you will do with this technique…..
Please post your creations in the SG Hybrid Gallery!
See you next month ……
