Creating a Realistic Gap when Digitally Stamping on Two Surfaces
When you actually stamp on two surfaces (not digitally), the ink does not show up where the two surfaces come together. There is a little bit of a split in the stamp. Here is one way to achieve this look digitally:
1. Put the Remember Seals Brush Set where you want it on your layout. For this technique it needs to overlap at least one thing. (For the best effect, the layer that the brush is overlapping should have a decent drop shadow applied to it.)
2. Create a duplicate layer. The easiest way to do this is to drag your Remember Seal layer down to the icon that looks like a page turning on the bottom of the Layers Palette.
3. Go to your Photo Matte layer and select that layer with the marching ants. The easiest way to do this is to Cmd+Click for Mac or Ctrl+Click for PC on the thumbnail image of it in the Layers Palette. With marching ants around your photo matte, now select (highlight) one of your Remember Seals Layers and hit Delete.
4. With the marching ants still around your photo matte, choose your OTHER Remember Seals Layer. Go up to the menu and pick Select> Inverse. This gives you a selection of everything but your photo matte. Hit Delete.
Now you have two layers of your Remember Seals Brush. One layer is only on the matte. The other layer is only on the background. If you left these layers as is, nothing would look different.
5. The last step is with the Move Tool. Use your arrow keys on your keyboard to give the Remember Seal on the background paper a little nudge or two. This will give you the gap between the seal you need to achieve a realistic look.
