Flip the switch, it’s time to shine our Designer Spotlight on another Scrap Girls designer! This month, we’re sitting down with Laura Louie for some girl time as she gives us the low-down on what makes her designer heart tick! Plus, she tagged 10 of her favorite products for the Designer Spotlight 40% Off Sale — so pop over to Laura’s store before 7/12/18 and load up your cart with her fave creations.
How long have you been designing and how did you get into it?
I started designing in 2011. Ro (Scrap Girls founder) had posted a designer call and I figured, “What the heck?” I was pleasantly shocked to be selected as a designer and still consider it be one of my best professional accomplishments!
Favorite thing vs. least favorite to design
Papers are probably my favorite thing to design. I love messing around with colors and styles until I get a look I love! On the other end of the spectrum is WordArt. I’m not a big journaler, so I always struggle to come up with titles or snippets that I like for scrapping. I like to think I’m getting better at it, but it just doesn’t come naturally to me at all.
Where does inspiration come from?
I love looking at stock photography websites! I love seeing all the beautiful photos and thinking about how I would scrap it if it was mine! I also love browsing in craft stores. Not just at the physical scrapbooking products, but I also love looking at the household items to see what colors or themes seem to be popular.
Favorite part of the day
Bedtime! I’m such an old soul, but I seriously love sleeping or just reading in bed!
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only choose one person to keep you company, who would it be?
I know I’ll probably regret this, but I would probably choose my husband. Of course, I also suspect that he would somehow be to blame for us winding up stranded on the desert island to begin with.
What was your favorite TV show when you were growing up?
My favorite was (and still is) The Golden Girls! In fact, I am SUPER excited because in August, I am going to a Golden Girls murder mystery dinner! We’ll have dinner and help solve the mystery in “The Curse of Jessica Fletcher”! It sounds hilarious, and I am thrilled to be going with a group of 15 equally crazy women! Now if only I could think up a way to create a Golden Girls scrapbooking kit….
