Where does your inspiration come from?
I’m inspired by what I see in the world around me — color, shapes, and texture in nature. What directs a lot of my designs is what’s happening in my life at the time and the type of projects I’m working on. A lot of my Scrap It Monthly products come from doing Project Life layouts myself.
How long have you been designing and how did you get into it?
I started digital scrapbooking around 2010. My dad and I were working on his memoirs, and I wanted to put all his photos and text into a format that I could put on a DVD so he could see it on his large screen TV. He had macular degeneration and was legally blind, so this was the best way for him to see it. I eventually realized I needed Photoshop, which I had learned to use in a multi-media course I took several years earlier. I also realized that I loved designing some of the papers and elements myself, and the rest, as they say, is history. I joined Scrap Girls in 2012. (Sadly, I didn’t finish the memoir project before my dad passed away.)
Where do you call home?
I live in the beautiful Niagara region in Ontario, Canada. Both my parents immigrated from the Netherlands to this area, and here we stayed. St. Catharines (the largest city in the Niagara region) is minutes from Niagara Falls. Every time I see it, I am blown away and stand in awe of the beauty that God created!
What is something we would never guess about you?
That’s a tough question — I usually say my life is an open book. Most people would guess from my designs and my layouts that I’m a Christian, I’m a grandmother, I love my family, I love taking pictures, and I love to cook! In this online world, however, you don’t see that I suffer from a debilitating rare condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia. It’s one of those invisible diseases, the kind where “you don’t look sick.” I am currently in remission, thankfully, and have been pain-free for a year and a half.
Who would you like to sit by on a long plane ride and why?
I would want to sit with my husband, because that means we’re going on a wonderful vacation, hopefully to Europe, Hawaii, or back to New Zealand.
What is your favorite cereal?
I don’t care for cereal, and since I’ve been dairy free, I don’t eat it at all. The closest thing is the oats I put in my smoothie.
