When you started working on your club, what was the first thing you did?
I always start by going to my favorite places for inspiration. My two most frequented, that never fail me, are Pinterest and Anthropologie and this time was no exception.
What inspired the colors in your club?
I usually have a general idea of the colors I want to use when beginning a kit but this time it took me a while to find the perfect color combination. I knew I wanted it to have a fresh spring/summer feel and was finally drawn to these beautiful muted citrus colors that I thought were ideal for the painted textures and the cheerful nature inspired theme.
Where did you find the inspiration for this club?
Unexpectedly, I was at my doctor’s office when I was first was inspired to do painted textures. While I was in the waiting room I was admiring all these wonderful garden paintings on the wall that were created with thick chunky brush strokes. And so the first idea was born and the name “Painterly” soon followed.
Also, as mentioned above, I found some wonderful ideas at two of my favorite places. Here are just a few things that I found on Pinterest and at Anthropologie that inspired me.
I took a photo of this window display at Anthropologie. I loved these hot air balloons and thought they would be a great addition to the nature and outdoor theme I had decided on. You can see my version of these in the ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Painterly. And the whimsical swirls on the glass were incorporated into the ScrapSimple Word Art Templates: Painterly frames.
In addition, I found these images on Pinterest. I love this whimsical style and it sparked some of the ideas for my ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Painterly 1 set. You can see my interpretation below.
The club includes several products. Did you start and complete each one before moving on to the next?
I usually start with my papers and then move on to embellishments and end with the word art or alpha. But for this club I started by experimenting with all my old paint supplies that had been put away for years. It was so much fun that I ended up playing around with them for several days and made quite the mess.
What was your favorite thing to design?
I would have to say the painted textures for the background papers. They are great because you can mix and match them with the different overlays or just use them by themselves. I have also included a tutorial for the club members that shows a quick and easy way to color these templates in multiple colors as shown below. Here are three finished examples, using similar colors, just to show a few of the limitless possibilities.
If you could pick only one word to describe your club, what would that word be?
Hmmmm, that’s a tough one because there were several ideas that came together to make up this club. The painted artistic feel, nature and the outdoors and I also wanted it to be both pretty and playful for versatility when making layouts. Putting all those elements together I would say the overall feel is “Whimsical”.
