When you started working on your club, what was the first thing you did?

When I was first asked to do the August club for 2014 it was August 2013 and I was on vacation. I immediately got busy brain storming a theme for the club, and I didn’t have to look too far for inspiration. We stay in a tiny Victorian cottage when on vacation, and it is filled with charm –  like hardbound books. The old fashioned hardbound covers that are a light jade green in color are beautiful with their texture, and the promise of adventure in their pages. I knew I wanted to have some type of book cover in the club.

In the next few months I started putting together a folder of ideas, images, and word art. It quickly looked like I was going in a light and pretty, modern & organic, theme. I wanted books, but not to be overly bookish, but more like a memory keeper book album collected look.

Where did you find the inspiration for this club?

A pile of light jade hardbound book covers. I was drawn to modern prints mixed with vintage documents and old fashioned script handwriting. But instead of doing the dark and worn library look I went with clean texture, pretty & light color set, and modern prints with some pressed petals thrown in.  As scrapbookers, we are memory keepers so I wanted a book theme that was more about adventure and family photo albums then a full-on library theme.

The club includes several products. Did you start and complete each one before moving on to the next?

I started on the collection biggie first, but no, I did not complete each product before moving on to the next. I did some rough work on some of the word art; moved on to the paper biggie, threw together some embellishments, and then finished the paper biggie. I started working on some layouts at this point to help figure out what other embellishments and word art to add.

What was your favorite thing to design?

I enjoyed designing the stones with the plants fossilized into them. My inspiration came from plant impressions that were in clay. These stones remind me of found treasures, or things that we like to collect.

If you could pick only one word to describe your club, what would that word be?

Organic!

About how long did it take you to design this club?

I started working on it in March. I did take some breaks to work on other products for the Scrap Girls Boutique. The Club is usually done long before it goes live so that we have time to check, check, and recheck it. I appreciate the Scrap Girls design team! We all jump in and help each other check the clubs. There are a lot of eyes looking for things that need to be changed before it goes live.

How did you come up with the name of your club?

I picked the word Kindred because it means “belonging to.”  I think it embodies the theme of family photo albums, relatives, relationships, and the connections we have with our family, friends, and pets.
