Every year at this time I am invited to parties and participate in gift exchanges. I look throughout the year for inexpensive gifts that I can take as hostess gifts or exchange at various events. Like you, I want to be able to give something pretty and handmade that is affordable.
One of my favorite holiday projects is what I call a printable Bag O’ Tags set using my favorite digital scrapbooking products. I make small gift cards and gift tags that I put into a zippered plastic storage bag. After I create my tags I simply put them in the bag, staple on a decorative topper and my gifts are ready for the season!
Since my Christmas tag set is usually given out prior to Christmas, I create Christmas themed gift cards and gift tags. But you can easily make cards and tags with other themes. Scrap Girls products give you an endless choice of themes, shapes, sizes, colors and embellishments.
Products Used:
Digital scrapbooking products
Scissors
Ruler
Adhesive (double sided tape, pop dots, dimensional strips, liquid)
Distressing Ink (I prefer chalk ink)
Paper Cutter
Tag 1 – 3” x 3” Gift Card
Distress all edges except card base.
Step 1 – Open a 2.75” x 2.75” document. Create the mat for the gift card.
Step 2 (embellishment) – Open the Joy PSD file from Tis the Season digital scrapbook collection. Drag the file onto your document. Resize all layers as a group (approximately 1 3/8” for scallop layer). Attach paper.
Tip – Fill in the frame layer and hide the Alpha layers.
Step 3 – Open a 8.5 x 11 document (I was able to put all three projects on this document for printing.). Drag the mat layer and the four embellishment layers onto document. Increase the size of your embellishment layers enough to make it easier to punch them out.
Tip – If you are using scissors don’t resize and make the scallop layer part of the mat. The scallop will be hard to cut with scissors
Step 4 (card base assembly) – Cut a piece of white cardstock 3” x 6”. Score at 3”, fold and use a bone folder along the fold line so it lays flat. Using two sided tape, adhere green ribbon to middle of mat wrapping ends behind the mat to conceal the ends. Attach the mat to the white card base with two sided tape.
Step 5 (assembling circle embellishment) – Punch or cut out the scallop and circles. Punches: scallop – 1 3/8”, circles – 1 ¼ “, 1” and ¾ “. Layer using pop dots. Put red thread in the green button, tie a bow and trim. Attach the button to the top circle with a glue dot. Use dimensional strips of tape to attach the embellishment to the card.
Tag 2 – ½” x 4” Gift Tag
Step 1 – Open a 2 ¼” x 3 ¾” document. Create gift tag. Tip – The tree, frame and paper need to be on a separate layer.
Step 2 – Drag the Santa Hat embellishment onto the lay out. Resize to approximately 1 ¼ “ x 1 ¼ “. Copy the layer and flip the copied layer. You will be using these images back to back for the top of the tag so you need a mirror image.
Step 3 – Open the 8.5 x 11 document that you started in project 1. Drag the gift tag layer, the tree layer (see step 2) and the two Santa Hat layers onto this document.
Step 4 – (Tag assembly) – Cut out the gift tag, the tree and the two Santa hats. Cut a piece of red cardstock 2 ½ “ x 4”. Attach the gift tag to the red cardstock with two sided tape. Roll the edges of the tree layer with a pencil or paint brush handle. Put a strip of two sided tape in the middle and attach the tree layer to the gift tag .
Tag (Santa hat) – Cut two pieces of green ribbon and attach to the wrong side of one hat with two sided tape. Add more tape and attach the hats together leaving the bottom of the hats open. You may need to trim the hats. Attach the Santa hat to the red cardstock (cardstock should be between the bottom of the two hats).
Step 5 (snowflake embellishment) – Punch out 3 snowflakes. Layer together with glue dots. Put green thread in the red button, tie a bow and trim. Attach the button to the top of the snowflakes with a glue dot. Attach to the tag.
Tag 3 – 2 ¾ “ x 4 ¼ “ Tag
Distress all edges.
Step 1 – Open a 2 ½ “ x 4” document. Create the mat for the gift tag.
Step 2 (stocking embellishment) – Open the Stocking PSD file from Tis the Season. Drag the file onto your document. Resize all layers as a group (approximately 2 ½ ” tall). Attach paper. Select the embellishments you want for stocking stuffers, Drag them onto your document, resize. I chose the penguin, reindeer, Santa hat and a circle. Tip – The stocking layer(s) need to be on a separate layer as you will print the mat with the stocking layer visible and use another layer of the stocking for the embellishment.
Step 3 – Open the 8.5 x 11 document that you started in project 1. Drag the mat layer, the stocking layer and the stocking stuffer embellishments onto this document. Tip – Add two small rectangles to the sides of the stocking layer to form two flaps. This will allow you to adhere the sides of the stocking with the flaps and provide room in the stocking for embellishments
Step 4 (Tag assembly) – Cut out a 2 ¾ “ x 4 ¾ “ mat from red cardstock.
Cut out the mat layer. Round top corners and adhere mat to cardstock. Punch a hole in top and add red ribbon.
Step 5 (Stocking embellishment) – Cut out stocking and embellishments. Adhere stocking to tag. Put embellishments in stocking with pop dots. Insert candy cane.
Tag 4 – 3” x 3” Gift Card
Step 1 – Open a 2 ¾ “ x 2 ¾ “ document. Create mat. Drag onto new 8 ½ x 11 project sheet.
Step 2 – Cut a piece of coordinating cardstock 3” x 6”. Score at 3”, fold and use a bone folder along the fold line so it lays flat. Adhere ribbon to the front and back of cards. Attach the mat to the card base with two sided tape.
Tag 5 – 3” x 3” Gift Card
Distress all edges.
Step 1 – Open a 2 ¾ “ x 2 ¾ “ document. Create four square mats ( 2 ¾ “,, 2 ¼ , 2, 1 ½ “). Stamp a digital stamp with a brush on the 1 ½ “ square. Drag onto 8 ½ x 11 project sheet.
Step 2 – Cut a piece of coordinating cardstock 3” x 6”. Score at 3”, fold and use a bone folder along the fold line so it lays flat. Attach the mats to the card base with two sided tape.
Step 3 – Create an embellishment with found items and liquid glue. Let dry completely. Attach to the card with liquid glue.
Tag 6 – 3” x 5” Tag
Distress all edges.
Step 1 – Open a 4” x 6” document. Create 4 rectangular tags large enough for the cutting dies and punches you select. Stamp a digital stamp with a brush on the mat on the top. Tip – If you don’t have dies or punches, select some digital tags and clip your paper to the tags. Drag onto 8 ½ x 11 project sheet.
Step 2 – Cut, die cut, punch out mats. Adhere together adding ribbon between some of the layers. Punch a hole in the back mat, insert ribbon. Tip – To conceal the ribbon cut a coordinating mat and adhere to the back of the tag.
