Christmas Card Hack

Christmas Card hack header

With the Holiday season upon us – it’s time to start thinking about Christmas cards. But, if you are at all like me then despite your best intentions of getting cards mailed before the holidays have come and gone – it never seems to happen!

So, why not put your already created holiday layouts to work? Especially, if you have created a layout our two that you are really pleased with. It’s so easy to base card designs on layouts! Follow along with me on one of my favorite holiday hacks!

Step 1: Create a 4×6, or 6×4” blank document.

Step 2: Open layout, make a duplicate copy and close the original. I like to resize my duplicate layout to 6×6” so that I don’t have to keep resizing each individual piece to fit my card. (This is why it’s super important to be using a duplicate of your original layout.)

Step 3: Drag background paper over to card from layout.

I also grabbed the paint layer from my layout and added to the left side of my card.

Step 4:  Drag over word art if your layout has a relevant holiday saying. Otherwise you can create a saying using a font or use word art from a coordinating kit.

Step 5: I knew that I wanted to keep the little cluster of embellishments and lights together to use on my card so I linked the element layers together. This keeps them from moving around and takes a lot less time to move over to my card. You can always unlink the layers if you want to move the individual items around on your card.

To link your embellishments: hold down the Cmd or Ctrl key and choose the layers you want to link in your Layers panel. Then click on the link icon on the bottom left of your Layers panel.

Step 6: Continue to drag the elements you want to include over to your card and arrange until you are happy with the results.

It’s super easy to move the elements and papers around to achieve several different designs.

Step 7: Depending on your preference you can create a portrait orientation card 4×6”.  Create your blank card and then follow the previous steps.

And it’s so easy to move things around to create several different looks!

That’s all there is to it! This is one of my favorite hacks!
