Adding Elements into a Vellum Envelope
Note: Digital scrapbooking tutorial written with screen shots from Photoshop CS and Windows XP.
Open up your vellum envelope and place it on a new layer of the desired layout you are creating. Open up the element, photo or other object you wish to "insert" into your envelope. Place it on its own layer on top of the vellum envelope. Use the Free Transform option (Edit> Free Transform) to manipulate the element however you would like it to be sticking out of your envelope.
Make a copy of your element layer (Ctrl+J). (Note: Keyboard shortcuts are handy, just remember to always make sure you have that layer selected in the Layers Palette beforehand!) Make the copy layer of your element invisible by clicking the eye icon next to the layer in the Layers Palette.
Return to the original element layer and select the Polygonal Lasso Tool from the toolbar. (It will be the second option on the pullout menu of your Lasso Tool.)
Lower the opacity of the original element's layer to about 30%, so you're able to "see through" the element to your vellum envelope on the layer below.
Zoom in on your canvas. Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to follow the edge of the envelope around your element. You should select the portion of the element that will be sticking out of the envelope. Close your Lasso Tool by returning to the original point where you started.
Hit Ctrl+X to cut the selected portion of your element. Make the copy layer of your element visible once again. Select the original element layer by hitting Ctrl while clicking on the layer in the Layers Palette. (Doing this will make the marching ants appear directly around the element on your canvas.) Select the copy layer and cut (Ctrl+X) the selected area. Merge the two layers (Ctrl+E) of your element together.
Repeat this process for as many elements, photos, or anything else you wish to add into your envelope!
