Today's Special of the Day!

Scrap Pack Biggie: Stylize
Save 30% off this Scrap Pack Biggie today only!

Each week on Tuesdays, we will be spotlighting one designer and one of their favorite products. This product will be on sale for one day only at 30% off!

This week's designer spotlight is on Brandy Hackman. In a short interview with Brandy, she shared these comments with us...

Since about 75% of the photos I scrap are of my boys, I tend the create collections that have a bit of a masculine edge. My Stylize products reflect this tendancy. Although I admit that I almost always throw in a couple of floral and softer papers and embellis, because the girl in me can't resist! After all, I am ocassionally in a photo that is scrap-worthy, too!

1. What is currently playing on your iPod/radio?

"Angel" by Shaggy

2. When designing a collection, what do you start with first? Papers, embellishments, word art?

Definitely papers.

A Designer's Life: Ang Campbell

Sometimes when I’m creating a digital scrapbooking layout I get a little too “in the zone” and tune out the things going on around me. When my three year old daughter Molly needs to get my attention while I’m scrapping, she’s not afraid to demand it by climbing right up onto my lap, grabbing my hands or face and really getting my attention.

Customer Muse by Ann (a.k.a. Grannie Annie)

Several days ago, I became addicted to eagles. Not just any eagles, but Decorah Eagles. There is a nesting pair of Bald Eagles in Decorah, Iowa, about an hour and a half from my home. They are international stars with their own website (www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles) which has gone viral. As I was watching, I started to think some random thoughts about eagles and life in general.

Understanding the Difference between Consumer Use Product and Commercial Use Product

One of the questions I get asked most often about the Scrap Girls Boutique is this: What exactly is the difference between consumer use product and commercial use product?

How to Color A Paper Template

Today, let's discover how to color a paper template! At Scrap Girls, we call them ScrapSimple Paper Templates, because they are super simple to use. What I love about paper templates is that I can use them to make a paper that will match or compliment my photo in my digital scrapbooking layout. If you have never used a paper template before, today you will find out how easy it is to add color to them.

Creating a Lace Background

I often use lace as an embellishment because the delicate material adds a touch of elegance and softness to any layout, whether it's a heritage-themed layout or a baby-themed layout. Sometimes, though, a little lacy ribbon or bow isn't enough. When you want your layout to feel especially rich and elegant, you can create a background entirely made of lace. Let's explore how to create a lace background using ScrapSimple Paper Templates.

Story Time: It's About Time

There are many reasons we create digital scrapbooks. It's a way to document important events. It preserves family memories. It's a creative outlet. It's a shared hobby that enables you to take part in a community. It's relaxing.

Photography Friday: Big Picture and Details

When photographing, it's a good idea to take a variety of pictures that will help tell your story. Shoot your subject in its entirety to set the scene. Then get close in and take pictures of significant details like a close-up of your subject's face wearing a dazzling smile; or zoom in on those colorful Easter eggs your kids painted to showcase the designs. Photos showing both the big picture and the details of the event will make your scrapbooking page more interesting visually, plus it better captures the memory of that moment.

Technology Saturday: Tagging in Picasa

When I first noticed we were going to do a tutorial on tagging in Picasa, I jumped at the chance to offer to write it. In the eight years that I've been digitally scrapbooking, I've never used a tagging program. I've always wanted to, but never found the time to sit down and learn it. So I thought, what better motivation to learn the basic how-to than having to write a tutorial on it?

Tips From The Pros

Using Contrast - Emotion

Using contrast is a simple way to spice up your digital scrapbooking pages. While there are many different ways to add contrast, today I am focusing on adding contrast with emotion. My children tend to be expressive, so it isn’t hard for me to find photos of them that show emotion.

Seven Ideas for Making Layouts About Your Pet

Since pets can be a pretty big part of our home life, they definitely deserve a place in our scrapbooks. Today, I'm going to give you seven layout idea starters to help you create layouts about your pet.

How to Use Photoshop Brushes and Styles to Add Accents to Your Digital Scrapbooking Layouts

It's easy to use Photoshop brushes and styles to add accents to your digital scrapbooking layouts. Many times as we work on layouts, we find that we have a space that needs "a little something," such as in the example below. The calendar is coming along nicely, but instead of adding photos or individual embellishments to the empty date squares, a brush with an added style may be a perfect solution. In this tutorial, you will learn how to use Photoshop brushes and styles to accent your digital scrapbooking layouts.

Using a Shape in Your Title

As I was working on a layout about one of my sons, I was trying to decide how to give my title some interest. One of the fun things about digital scrapbooking is being able to try something and easily changing it up. I decided to try using a shape in place of a letter.

Combining ScrapSimple Paper Templates

ScrapSimple Paper Templates were some of the first digital scrapbooking products I purchased when I first started scrapping digitally. I saw such versatility in them and loved the idea of being able to use them to create unique papers for my layouts. If you look in the top right corner of most of the ScrapSimple Paper Templates marketing images, you'll see this little phrase: "Combine patterns for even more designs, build unique sets by collecting and combining different paper templates patterns." I want to show you how to do this quickly and easily!

Games

May Message Board Game: Spotlight on the Boutique!

Each day during May (with the exceptions of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post a layout in the official game thread. The layout will correspond with a product in the Scrap Girls Boutique and will be either the only layout or directly to the right of the product image on the product details page. A spotlight circle will show a portion of the layout you are to search for. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout. This will be repeated until the product is identified.

To participate, search the Boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. One guess per member per day. The winner will be drawn from all members who correctly identify a product throughout the month. The winner will receive a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Message Board.

Contests

For those in the southern hemisphere, it would be flowers of the fall variety. For May's layout contest, show us what's blooming in your neck of the woods or show us photos of your favorite flowers. Post your layouts in the May Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MT on May 31st. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen, you will win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used.
