Save 30% off this Collection Mini today only!

Each week on Tuesdays, we will be spotlighting one designer and one of their favorite products. This product will be on sale for one day only at 30% off!

This week's designer spotlight is on Syndee Nuckles. In a short interview with Syndee, she shared these comments with us...

I was inspired by Monet's paintings of his wife, Camille, and her garden. This collection makes me feel as if I am walking through an old English garden with crumbling stone walls and statues.

1. Do you blog? If so, where can we find you?

Yes I do, but I just wish I had more time to keep on top of it. You can find me at: http://soshesaid.typepad.com/so_she_said/

2. What are your favorite pizza toppings?

Ground Beef, cheese, tomatoes, olives, and avocado. I adore taco pizza!

How to Download Scrap Girls Freebies

Did you know that Scrap Girls gives away seven digital scrapbooking freebies every week?! That's right - we give away one a day, Monday through Saturday, and a bonus one in the Round-Up newsletter on Tuesday. That's more than 380 free downloads each year!

What are Digital Layout Album Templates?

Do you want to learn a secret of creating an entire, cohesive digital scrapbooking album quickly? Today, I'll let you in on one of my little secrets for doing just that... Digital Layout Album Templates! Maybe you're creating a baby book album. Maybe you need to create a Mother's Day gift. Maybe a vacation album waits for you. Digital Layout Album Templates will help you pull your entire album together with ease.

Easter Scrapbooking Pages

Easter is just around the corner, and your camera is ready to capture all those special Easter memories. So many events associated with this holiday make photo-perfect opportunities for digital scrapbookers!

Story Time: Daddy's Thoughts

Family trees and the stories associated with those family members are truly the best things about digital scrapbooking. I had a plan to digitally scrapbook a specific story from our family. I asked my husband a series of questions about when our son was born - to which he gave spontaneous answers. Then I transcribed his answer and planned to use it on my scrapbook page. I suppose that I could have given him the questions in advance so he could plan his responses - but I'd rather have his spontaneous results.

Photography Friday: Bokeh

The term bokeh comes from the Japanese word boke, which means blur or haze, or boke-aji - the blur quality. In photography, bokeh (pronounced bo-keh) is the blur or the aesthetic quality of the blur in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light" - or so says Wikipedia!

Technology Saturday: How to Download and Organize Your Photos

When it comes to taking photos, I have to admit that my perfectionist side comes out in full force. I take many, many photos of the same shot in an effort to get just one perfect photo. That usually means that one session with my camera ends up with a hundred or more photos. I make a habit of downloading my photos onto my computer as soon as possible.

Scrap Girls Special Event

Mischief Week is Here!

For those of you who haven't been with us for the past several years, Mischief Week is a week that's full of general madness and mayhem. We have lots of crazy chats, classes, games, prizes, and other random events just in time to usher us into the wonderful world of spring.

We've got a schedule full of events that the Scrap Girls Team are hosting, plus our Mischief Week Sale, games, freebies, contests, prizes and fun! Clear your calendars - you won't want to miss this!

Brownies Mischief Game

Ready to play a game?

We are baking a special batch of brownies for Mischief Week and have cooked up a little story game to celebrate. There are 50 underlined words in the story. For each underlined item in the story, list the item and a link to a product in the Scrap Girls Boutique that contains the underlined item. Products can only be used once, although some underlined items may be repeated, which means that there is another product containing the same item.

To enter the game, send an email to [email protected] with the subject line "Brownie Story." For each item guessed, you must include BOTH the product name and a link to where you can find it in the Scrap Girls Boutique. You have until Saturday, April 30th at Midnight (MDT) to enter.

Now don't panic! You don't have to find them all to play the game!

For all players:

  • If you get 25 or more correct answers, you will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Gift Certificate!

  • If you get 10-24 correct answers, you will be entered into a drawing for a $10 Gift Certificate!

  • If you get 5-9 correct answers, you will be entered into a drawing for a $5 Gift Certificate!

The Day I Made Brownies

The Family Reunion was getting close, and I still hadn’t decided what to bring for dessert. Since chocolate is always a big hit with my family tree, brownies came to mind. I checked my cook book, and found my pantry was lacking some ingredients. So I hopped into my truck like a bunny rabbit and headed to the grocery store. I put my favorite cassette tape in the player and turned it up loud. On the way, I passed the barnyard where the cows were out grazing and the farmer was busy planting some corn. As I reached town, I noticed that the statue of Lady Liberty was coming along nicely.

I found a parking spot at the end of the row near the stop sign. I hiked into the store and found the baking aisle. I picked up some cocoa powder, eggs and sugar. The check out lanes weren't busy, so I couldn't stop and look at the magazine covers. I made my purchase and headed home. I picked up my mail, and noticed a postcard from a Scrap Girls' friend!

Once home, I was greeted by my dog and the phone was ringing. As I chatted on the phone with my friend who just got home from a trip to Las Vegas, I set up my stand mixer and preheated the oven. I added all the ingredients and poured the batter into the cookie sheet. Into the oven, it went. As a reward, I licked the spatula!

I had just sat down in my comfortable chair in front of my computer, with my hand on the mouse, when the doorbell rang. My neighbor came over to talk about forming a car pool for the soccer games this summer. We stepped outside to look at the daffodils and tulips in my garden. As we talked about planting our vegetable gardens, I noticed that there was smoke coming out of the window! As I ran inside to the kitchen, my neighbor called the fire department on her cell phone. I grabbed an oven mitt and removed the burned sheet of brownies from the oven as a fire truck pulled up in front of my house!

Once the firemen realized everything was under control, they went on their way. I thanked my lucky stars! I started the baking process over again, making sure I set the timer and put it on the table next to me. While working on a layout and relaxing, the timer rang and the brownies were done. I didn't burn them this time! After adding some sprinkles to the top, I went back to my layout and added a ribbon, a green button and some stitching and considered it finished! Since the sun was still shining, I went outside to sit under the shade of a tree and write in my journal. As I sat there, the school bus came and dropped the girls off. I took them inside and told them about all the excitement. What a Thursday!

Tips From The Pros

Orange - a Hazard or a Help?

Several years ago, I would have said orange is a hazard. It rarely turned up in my life (except on Halloween), and even less often on my digital scrapbooking pages. Somewhere along the line, I had a boy, then another boy, then a third boy! I quickly realized what a fun and energetic color orange is, plus my children look positively adorable in orange.

Scrap Girls Club Tips & Tricks: How to Open a File Folder Digitally for Scrapbook Layouts

One of my favorite embellishments included in this month's Scrap Girls Club kit is the file folder in the Assemble Your Own Zoom Pages: Being With You. The embellishment that is included in the set is just the single side of the file folder – the tabbed side. In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to take that single side and create an open file folder – in other words, a two-page folder that has been laid open flat.

Reducing 12x12 Scrapbook Layouts to 4x6

A lot of times I make layouts that I would really like to share with friends and family. Since almost all of my layouts are 12x12 inches, this presents a few problems for me: I almost never print my own layouts (due to ink costs), and although a digital (electronic) copy is nice, sometimes you want to physically hand a tangible layout to your loved one. I thought it over one day and realized that I could create small-format, 4x6-inch layouts from larger layouts! Now I can share my favorite layouts with friends and family in a handy size.

Four Ways to Use Background Papers

One of the commonalities between digital scrapbookers and paper scrapbookers seems to be the insatiable desire for paper. Bright, bold, and colorful, or subtle and subdued, there has to be a paper for every occasion; in fact, there are so many papers to choose from, sometimes you just can't decide!

Adjusting Embellishments Drop Shadows with Photoshop Blending Modes

It's easy to add a realistic dimension and depth to pre-made shadows by using the Blending Modes in Photoshop. In this tutorial, I used the pre-made shadows and embellishments from the My Doll Collection.

Games

April Message Board Game: BINGO!

Join us for an exciting game of Springtime BINGO on the Message Board Forum in April! Pick 25 words from the list provided and send them in an email to [email protected] with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your Scrap Girls Message Board username" by Saturday, April 2nd at Midnight MST in order to play in the first round. The first round will begin on Monday, April 4th. If you miss the first round deadline, you can still play! Just send in your BINGO card at any time during the month, and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts.

Each day, a member of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the BINGO list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call "BINGO!" in the game thread to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards will be cleared and a new round will begin the following day.

Each winner will receive a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!

For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Message Board.

Contests

April Monthly Layout Contest: Earth Day was started in the United States in 1970 and it went global in 1990. For April's Monthly Layout Contest, we want you to show us what Earth Day means to you or what you are doing to make our precious world a little greener. Post your layouts in the April Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MT on April 30th. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. If your layout is one of the two chosen, you will win a $10 gift certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
