Today's Special of the Day!

Arts N Crafty Kids Collection Biggie
Save 30% off this Collection Biggie today only!

Each week on Tuesdays, we will be spotlighting one designer and one of their favorite products. This product will be on sale for one day only at 30% off!

This week's designer spotlight is on Ang Campbell. In a short interview with Ang, she shared these comments with us...

I love to digitally create, but I also really enjoy creating tangible things and playing with art supplies. I'm not very good at the grown-up arts and crafts, but my kids and I love getting our hands messy with finger paints, sticky with glue and stickers and twisted up in yarn and pipe cleaner. Because my kids enjoy arts and crafts time so much, and because I love taking pictures of them in all their messy, creative glory, I knew it was time to design a collection I could use to showcase the photos I was taking of my arts-n-crafty kids. This was definitely my most enjoyable collection to design because it was such an interactive and creative process with my children. I love the bright, bold colors and the familiar textures of construction paper, finger paints and play dough. I hope you enjoy using it as much as I do!

1. What programs do you use?

I use Photoshop CS4 and will avoid upgrading for as long as possible. I'm very comfortable with it and I like sticking with what I know. I'm not a fan of change, but I do like to learn new things so I'm sure I'll end up upgrading after another release or two have been launched.

2. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Depends on who's making it! I really love Ben and Jerry's Cheesecake Brownie ice cream. And at Christmas time when you can find peppermint ice cream, I'm a big fan of that with thick caramel sauce on it. For any old time, I love McDonald's vanilla cones.

Ever wish that you could be a Product Designer for Scrap Girls?

Well, now's your chance to apply!

If you are interested, please forward the following items to [email protected].

The subject line must read: Product Designer Application.

  1. 3 color palettes that you might use as a basis for designing collections.

  2. A collection mini, consisting of 6 background papers, 1 "sheet" of embellishments, and 1 "sheet" of word art.

A "sheet" consists of a grouping of items that will fit on an 8.5x11 document. Take care to make sure that the collection mini's color set is well balanced and that it has an idea that ties it together. It should contain enough embellishments and word art to be useful to someone who wishes to make several layouts from it. Also, take care that the embellishments are not a grouping of a small number of items that have just been re-colored. This is your opportunity to show your versatility and skill-level.

  3. At least one sample layout using the collection mini.

  4. A brush set with 3 brushes.

  5. A paper template set (like our ScrapSimple Paper Templates) with 2 papers.

  6. An embellishment template set (like our ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates) with 3 embellishments.

Also, answer the following questions in the body of your application email.

  1. Approximately, how much would you like to earn each month?
  2. Approximately, how many hours do you have to dedicate to design work each week?
  3. What are your goals as it pertains to design work?
  4. Why are you interested in working with Scrap Girls?
  5. What software do you use?
  6. Any other information that you will would be helpful as we make our decision.

Other instructions: Save your files as 600px wide, 72 dpi. Place them in one zipped folder and forward with your application email.

Customer Muse by Sherry Mattson

As I write this, it is Ash Wednesday (March 9), the day when Christians around the world begin the journey of Lent with the reminder, "you are dust, and to dust you shall return." Our culture rarely invites us to think about our own mortality, despite the horrifying images surrounding us in the news and in our "entertainment." Yet such thoughts are inevitable, not only at the death of loved ones, but even in our marriage ceremony, when we make vows to one another, "until we are parted by death."

Back to Basics

The Proven Path to Becoming a Great Digital Scrapbooker

I thought I'd give you some tips about using my "how to learn to make digital scrapbooking layouts" tutorial series – Software Scrapbook Secrets Revealed for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.

What is a Chat?

The first time I saw chats and crops announced in the Scrap Girls Newsletter, I was confused. As a former paper scrapper, I knew all about crops but had no idea how it was done in an online format. It's really quite simple - and a lot easier than toting crates of supplies around!

Beating the Clock: How I Make Time to Create Digital Scrapbooking Layouts

How do I make time for digital scrapbooking? I'm so glad you asked! For me, it has mostly been about prioritization. I read a little less than I used to and rarely watch television. Cross-stitching, my other obsessive hobby, has been on indefinite hold since I began scrapbooking.

What I Wish I Knew When I Started: Recording Supplies

Have you ever completed a layout and went to post it in the Scrap Girls Gallery and realized that you didn't have a list of the products you used? Ugh! When I first started out, I did that a few times. Then I had to scramble to figure out which papers and elements came from which collections.

Technology Saturday: Paint Shop Pro Tutorial

One of the significant differences between Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro is the ability to use clipping masks. Paint Shop Pro does not have the ability to "clip" one layer to the layer below it. But this doesn't mean that Paint Shop Pro users can't use JIF 6 or JIFFY Easy Pages from the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Tips From The Pros

White Space

Do you know what white space is? No, I'm not talking about the inane chatter of the sports broadcaster that your husband listens to during football on Monday night -- that's white noise. I'm talking about white space, which is a term to describe the areas on layouts that are around a focal point, the areas that allow a place for your eye to rest. And they don't even have to be white!

How to Make Easy Layouts with JIF 6 Kits

JIF Kits are one of the fastest and easiest ways to create a finished layout within minutes - literally. Because they come with the finished layout in a PSD file, it's super-easy for you to simply click-and-drag your photos and customize the layout to your preference. The finished product is a beautiful professional-looking layout in a fraction of the time it normally takes you to assemble a digital scrapbooking layout. Let me show you how easy it is.

Five Different Uses for Digital Photoshop Brushes

Brushes are one of the most versatile tools in Photoshop because we can do so many things with them. To get a little more out of your brushes, I'm going to give you five different ways to use them.

Digital Scrapbooking Product Review: ScrapSimple Paper Templates

I have to admit that not too long ago, I was rather intimated by and unsure how to use ScrapSimple Paper Templates. However, after taking just a little bit of time to experiment and play with different ScrapSimple Paper Templates, I find myself using them on nearly all of my layouts. If you find yourself to be just like I was and a little afraid to play with them, I encourage you to play around, have fun, and experiment with them. I'm sure you will grow to love paper templates as much as I do. Let me show you how I used them on a recent digital scrapbooking layout.

Using Computer Scrapbooking Fonts to Create Layout Titles

Have you ever noticed just how much great word art is available to use on digital scrapbooking layouts? From great catch phrases and sayings to fun words and meaningful expressions, we have seemingly endless choices.

Basic Photo Editing: Cropping

A photo, all by itself, has the power to evoke strong feelings; it is after all, a window to the soul.

When I am looking for photos to add to my digital scrapbook layouts, I look at several things. Does the picture or series of pictures tell a story? Or even more basically... are the pictures in focus? Is the main subject obvious?

Join us for an exciting game of Springtime BINGO on the Message Board Forum in April!
