- A Designer's Life: Shalae Tippetts
I had never been on a motorbike until a month after I was engaged. My father-in-law declared that if I was going to marry into the family, I needed to know how to ride a bike. He had me climb on the front of a dirt bike, then he sat down behind me and told me to give it some gas. I drove him straight into a fence. He's never had me try to learn again.

- Life Muses by Ro: It Takes Courage
When I opened the door, I saw two 12-year-old boys holding a tiny black cat that looked like it had been through the dishwasher.
"Is this your kitten?" one of them asked.

Note from Heidi: The flu has hit our house this week - and hard. So Ro's subbed in for me and has another cartoon to share with everyone this week!
- Life Muses by Ro: Quotes
I love quotes. I adore them. I fill notebooks with them, illustrate them with cartoons, and say them out loud to myself in failed attempts to keep them in the front of my brain. Here are a few of the ones I've collected recently.
- Customer Muse by Dodie
Growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, we are part of the Baby Boomer generation. Money was tight back then, but Mom was very creative. There wasn't anything she couldn't do....

Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.
Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

"Boys" by Armi Custodio
Directions for one technique I did on this layout:
I wanted to brighten my background paper a bit to better match my sunlit photos. I tried using the Levels sliders, but I didn't get the effect I was after. So I experimented and layered three different ScrapSimple Paper Templates over the background paper. First, I placed template 6 from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Dreamtime 1 (uncolored, Soft Light, 75% Opacity), which brightened my background considerably and added some subtle texture. Next, I put the Soft Canvas template from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Day at the Beach (recolored green, Pinlight, 60% Opacity), which amplified the green color of my son's shirt. Last, I placed template 2 from ScrapSimple Paper Template: Edgy, THIN (recolored green, Normal, 55% Opacity) to add a little more green to the edges.
Software used: Adobe Photoshop CS5
Name of challenge: Create a layout using at least three ScrapSimple Paper templates.
Journaling: You and your cousins. All boys and all under the age of 6. Each one with a mischievous look in their eyes. It is sure to be noisy, rowdy, and messy when you three are together, but it is wonderful seeing you all grow up together as well.

March Message Board Game: Going on a Boutique Hunt!
Remember as a child when you played the game that started like this: "I am going on a ___ hunt and bringing..." then you listed an item with the first letter of your name or a specific letter? We are playing a similar game on the Message Board during the month of March. Each day, a new theme and starting letter will be posted in the Game thread. Members will search the Boutique for something that fits the theme and post a link to it in the Game thread. Only one product per letter per round will be counted, and products cannot be used more than once. Collections and their individual parts are one product, and time stamps will be used to determine which post came first in case of more than one post per letter. Entries are to follow the alphabet, starting with the letter posted with the theme each day. There's a limit of three posts per person each day, and there must be another player's post before posting again.
PRIZES: Members' names will be added to a drawing based on the number of qualified product links which they post in the thread. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the month and winners will be announced in the April 2nd Newsletter. Gift certificates will be awarded as follows: First prize - $15 Gift Certificate; second prize - $10 Gift Certificate, and third prize - $5 Gift Certificate.
For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Message Board.
