Embossing Papers
Article written using Adobe Photoshop CS6 with Windows 7
I have always loved the look of embossed papers, and as paper crafter, I amassed quite a collection of stencils and tools. Now, however, they are gathering dust on a shelf because I can get the same look with the click of my mouse using Brandy Murry's ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Emboss and Engrave Super Biggie. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to use this style to create an embossed or engraved look on your digital scrapbook pages.
First, you will need to install the style in your program. If you haven't installed a style before, you can find instructions in the ScrapSimple Instructions Handbook (Free ScrapSimple basics eBook). Now, try applying the style to different brushes, word art, embellishments, and ScrapSimple Paper Templates. Brandy’s styles make the layer transparent so they will take on the color(s) of the items below them in the Layers Palette. The embossing effect only applies to the edges, so choose items with some transparency.
In the example below, I put the brush work on a new layer and made sure the embellishments and paper templates I used were PNG files

On my page, I used ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Circlets 1 Biggie with the styles. I tried all the styles in the set on the different layers of the template. The embossed styles will give it a raised appearance while the engraved styles will look indented. Below you can see the detail on the edge of the circlet and how I used the styles with the layers.

Try using these styles to get a neat embossed or engraved look on one of your next digital scrapbook pages, then post your layout in the Newsletter Tutorial section of the Scrap Girls Gallery. Using ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Emboss and Engrave Super Biggie on your digital scrapbooking pages can give your older supplies a fresh look and make it look like you spent a lot more time on them than you really did.
