Digital Scrapbooking Layout by Joyce Schardt

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

The familiar saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words" is quite true. Therefore, could it also be true that three or more pictures must say even more? By carefully selecting a series of shots, a story can be told with minimal journaling – or none at all. When you're taking photographs, focus on capturing the little details of the moment. In this layout, Ava was totally engaged in devouring the cupcake... to the very last lick! Any one of the three pictures alone would not have conveyed the incredible yumminess of that cupcake covered with gooey red icing!

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

For this layout, I wanted to create the feeling of depth. This is where differing depths of drop shadows are a girl's best friend! First, I created a lot of paper layers; then I added varying drop shadows to each layer. To give the feeling of thickness to the sketchbook and to make the square frame look like it was "dangling" from the chain, I used bigger drop shadows. To make the background papers seem thin, I used smaller drop shadows. I didn't add any shadows to the title or journaling so that they seemed to be written on the paper. The result: The different layers and drop shadows give this page a more realistic feeling of depth.

To add some extra fun and interest to my page, I clipped coordinating striped paper to the bottom of the curled frames. Once clipped, I set my Blending Mode to Linear Burn with 66% Opacity.

Directions for one technique I did on this layout:

I really like the stamped look of Brandy Murry's Brush Set: Art Diary Alpha Super Biggie. When I had finished placing each letter on my page, it just wasn't quite right for this country-themed layout. I tried a Blending Mode or two, which allowed the canvas texture to show through a little more. Then it came to me - Kim Meeder's ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Branded 10601 - PS could be used for canvas in addition to wood. Sure enough, following the easy directions that came up after I pressed Play on the action, I customized my title in just a minute! Now the title looks "burned" into the canvas, giving it the texture and look that I was wanting.

Games

January's Forum Game: Jumpstart January!

It's time to kick off the new year with some fun and a focus on scrapbooking! Join us on Scrap Girls Forum for "Jumpstart January!" This is a game and challenge that focuses on taking time to scrapbook regularly despite the little "speedbumps" of life. When the month is over you'll have completed several layouts and been treated to some fun along the way.

A Welcoming Committee Member will post a task each Monday through Saturday from January 1-31. The tasks will be formatted in a LARGE PURPLE FONT for ease of locating them in the game thread as it grows. Some tasks will require message board participation, email responses or gallery posting. Read each daily task carefully to see what is required of you.

Those who complete all the required tasks and submit or post required participation by 11:59 pm (ET) January 31st will be entered in a drawing to win one of three $10 Gift Certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Those who complete all the layouts will be entered in a drawing to win one of two $5 gift certificates. Each person who completes a layout will be entered – once for each completed challenge page - into a drawing for one of three $3 gift certificates.

For complete details, visit the Monthly Forum Games folder on the Scrap Girls Forum.
