2013 Calendar - Easy, Colorful, Customizable!

Can you believe it - 2013 is just around the corner! Are you ready? One way I like to get ready for the New Year is with a new calendar. This is one of my favorite projects to create. I have been making calendars for myself as well as gifts for my mother and mother-in-law each Christmas. I love the way Scrap Girls allows me to create such beautiful and unique personalized calendars. The possibilities are indeed endless. Let me show you how easy it really is to make these one-of-a-kind calendars.
First, select a size and template. I am using Sarah Batdorf's ScrapSimple Calendar Templates: 12x24 Perpetual. This particular template comes with several layer grids that can be used again and again over a span of many years.
Once my files were opened, I layered all the template layers into a 12x24-inch blank canvas.
Note: Most of the calendar templates designed for a particular year already have this step completed for you. However, the perpetual templates need a little combining. I searched "2013 calendar" to make sure I got my days right.
Next, I found the picture(s) I wanted to use. I usually highlight my favorite photos or favorite family highlight from the previous year to correspond with the month I am working on. Some months I highlight an individual whose birthday is that month. A couple of my past calendars were themed, such as our Disneyland calendar which highlighted our family's Disney trip.
After I selected my photos, I found a digital scrapbooking collection of papers, embellishments, and word art that complemented them. (If you're following along and completing these steps with me, now the real fun begins!) This was the best part of the task – creating colorful layouts with a click of my mouse. And because we're digitally scrapbooking, undoing mistakes is super easy – just click that Undo icon!
Because I worked with a layered template, clipping papers to each layer easily made my calendar come alive. (To clip papers to a template layer, click Ctrl+G in Photoshop Elements; Ctrl+Alt+G in Photoshop.) Next, I added digital embellishments to spice up the page.
Finally, I included all those important dates, holidays, birthdays, and upcoming trips. My page was now complete!

Another idea for a fast-and-easy calendar is to use a layout you have already designed for something else. For example, I selected a favorite layout that you may have already seen in my Scrap Girls Gallery entitled South Thailand.
Using the same collection and Ang Campbell's ScrapSimple Calendar Templates: 8.5x11 Perpetual, I was able to quickly create a calendar spread.
Once all my pages are done, including a cover, I will be ready to print. Calendars can be printed from an array of sources, such as your home printer or a local print shop. There are also a number of online printing resources who will print fully customizable calendars. This month, Scrap Girls is partnering with MyPicTales to offer a special coupon (see above) for a great deal on getting your 2013 calendar printed!

November's Forum Game: Products Picks Game
This November, we are playing the Products Picks game where we encourage you to stroll through the aisles of the boutique and do a little window shopping.
Each Monday through Saturday in November, a member of the Welcoming Committee will post the name of one or two product designers in this Product Picks game thread. You will then head to the Scrap Girls Boutique and navigate to that particular designer's product pages. Choose any of their products (your favorite product, one you like, or one you wish you owned), then head over to the Product Picks game thread and share the product name, boutique link, and a brief explanation of why you chose that product.
At the end of the month, members who haves posted links to 41 products (one for each designer) will be entered in a drawing for one of three $10 Gift Certificates. Members who have posted links to 16-40 products will be entered in a drawing for one of two $5 Gift Certificates. And members who have posted links to 10-15 products will be entered in a drawing for one of two $3 Gift Certificates.
