Introducing Marlene Peacock
Today, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Marlene Peacock - our new designer with the colorful name.
Marlene’s creative roots go back to her college days when she studied at Sheridan College, School of Crafts and Design in Ontario. She started her career as a traditional artist, creating hand-crafted jewelry. When the first personal computer landed in her house in the 1980s, she admits she was very resistant at the start, but over time, she learned more and more about multi-media and digital design.
Marlene was introduced to the world of digital scrapbooking while helping her father preserve his collection of photos and memorabilia from his immigration to Canada from Holland, his days travelling through Europe, and his experiences living and working in North Africa. Due to a medical condition, her father’s eyesight was failing, but Marlene realized that he could still enjoy looking at his photos if they were put into a slideshow for viewing on his large-screen TV. Scanning his passport stamps and other vintage ephemera fueled a creative spark in Marlene to start designing elements to complement her father’s memorabilia.
Today, her kits are inspired by what is happening in her everyday family life, as well as her strong faith in God that shines through her designs. She is usually inspired by a theme and color palette and then coordinates it all together into a kit. She does not consider herself to be a particularly “girly-girl,” so her designs generally favor a simple, clean look. She is thrilled to be part of the Scrap Girls design team because she wants to play a part in helping others, like her father, preserve their memories, too.

Creative Cards Chat

Make a note of any cards you might need for the upcoming month and Join April (April Showers) for the once a month Card Chat on the first Tuesday of each month at 8 PM Eastern Time. High Noon Crop
Wednesday, November 7th - 12 Noon EST
Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 12 Noon ET for the High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week.
On November 7th, we'll have a Color Challenge! Create a layout using the rich warm tones of autumn.
Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!
Journaling Crop

Do you struggle to get your words on your layouts? This is the crop for you! Join Carla (CRS) in the Chat Room for a Journaling Crop at 8 pm edt that is sure to help you get journaling! This month, we'll talk about Shalae's ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Matchbooklet!
November's Forum Game: Products Picks Game
This November we are playing the Products Picks game where we encourage you to stroll through the aisles of the boutique and do a little window shopping.
Each Monday through Saturday in November, a member of the Welcoming Committee will post the name of one or two product designers in this Product Picks game thread. You will then head to the Scrap Girls Boutique and navigate to that particular designer's product pages. Choose any of their products (your favorite product, one you like, or one you wish you owned), then head over to the Product Picks game thread and share the product name, boutique link, and a brief explanation of why you chose that product.
At the end of the month, members who haves posted links to 41 products (one for each designer) will be entered in a drawing for one of three $10 GCs. Members who have posted links to 16-40 products will be entered in a drawing for one of two $5 GCs. And members who have posted links to 10-15 products will be entered in a drawing for one of two $3 GCs.

November Monthly Layout Contest: What are you thankful for? Have you thought about your blessing lately? For the November Layout Contest, we'd love to flood the Gallery with layouts showcasing what you are thankful for! Upload your layout into the November Gallery in the Monthly Layout Galleries Folder before Midnight ET on November 30th and you could be one of the two people who will win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Please be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties.
Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
