Scrap Girls 8th Anniversary Party!

It's a Party!

This week we are pulling out all the stops to bring you a weeklong party because we have two fantastic reasons to celebrate.

First, it's our anniversary! Saturday, October 20th, marks eight great years of Scrap Girls. To recognize this occasion, we are releasing a great new kit called Story Teller that features all things digital scrapbooking. This kit is a collaboration kit that a whole team of our designers created. And the best thing of all? A full 100% of the sales of this kit go to our favorite charity, Food for the Poor. Additionally, many of our designers have created small coordinating kits that go with Story Teller, and these will be offered at a special price all week long, too.

Our Scrap Girls Forum will be the place to be this week with special chats and games, including some old favorites brought back for this week only. And there will be prizes galore given out for all the chats and challenges!

Second, we are celebrating the Grand Opening of our new Boutique. We have a new look and a ton of great new features that make shopping at Scrap Girls more fun than ever. Every day this week, we will be celebrating these new features on our blog with a daily giveaway. That's right - you can win just for putting something on your Wish List, or leaving a product review. And at the end of the week, we will take all the entries and draw a winner for a Grand Prize - $50 to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Check the blog to see what the contest of the day will be.

All week long, our newsletter will be featuring articles about "What Scrap Girls Means to Me." We would love to hear from you, too. So today's blog contest is to leave us a comment about what Scrap Girls means to you. We will draw a random winner at the end of the day and will be publishing the best responses in our Newsletter on Saturday.

Embellishment Hunt Game

Your challenge is to find these sixteen embellishments in the Scrap Girls Boutique. Those who correctly identify all 16 items will be entered into a drawing to win a $28.88 Gift Certificate! Those who correctly identify 15 or less will be entered into a drawing for an $8.88 Gift Certificate.

• Hunt for the embellishments in the Scrap Girls Boutique.

• Go the Scrap Girls Forums and find the "Embellishment Hunt" thread located in the Anniversary Party Forum. Post a message in this thread saying that you have entered the game.

• After you have finished searching, send an email to [email protected] with the subject line: "Embellishment Hunt." Include your username, the name of the product where you found the embellishment, and a link to its page in the Scrap Girls Boutique for each of the sixteen items.

• Emails must be received by 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday, October 20th.

  Do you struggle to get your words on your layouts? This is the crop for you! Join Carla (CRS) and Theresa (teecee) in the Chat Room for a Journaling Crop that is sure to help you get journaling! This month, we'll talk about Cherise Oleson's ScrapSimple Type Paths: Numbers.

• 9:00pm EDT - Scraplift Challenge
  Join Melanie (mbc72) and Theresa (tiza126) in the Chat Room for a Scraplifting Chat! Scraplifting can be a huge source of inspiration to help you with your layouts, and it's a lot of fun for the person who inspired you, too. Come and join in the fun we'll be having!

  Join Valerie (valerietuff3) for an Anniversary Siggy Challenge. Come learn how to make a custom signature in honor of Scrap Girls' 8th Anniversary. We'll also review the steps to add your new siggy to your Forum Profile.

• 8:00pm EDT – Build Your Own Anniversary Cake
  Cake is the best part of any celebration! Join April (April Showers) and Carla (CRS) in the Chat Room for the Build Your Own Anniversary Cake Chat. Earlier in the day, a list of ingredients will be posted on the Forum. Each ingredient has a "secret" scrapbooking supply paired up with it. Pick your ingredients, then come to the chat to find out what supplies you will need to include on your layout!

• 10:00pm EDT - Tuesday Freebie Challenge
  So many freebies, so little time! I bet all of us have lots of freebies that we haven't ever used, maybe not even unzipped or put into folders! What are you waiting for? Join the challenge and come chat with Shannon (tinkerbell11) about all the beautiful free products you have just waiting to be used and create a layout while you're at it.

  If you love the idea of a personalized calendar but are not sure where to start, get to the Chat Room for tons of ideas on how to get started and organized (and printing ideas, too) with Shannon (tinkerbell11).

• 12Noon EDT - High Noon Crop
  Join April (April Showers) for the High Noon Crop. These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun new challenge each week. This week, your challenge is to create a layout using lots of embellishments - flowers, tags, frames, or whatever works with your page. Let's make use of those fancy, fun embellishments.

• 8:00pm EDT – Sketch Challenge
  Join us for a special Scrap Girls' Anniversary Party edition of the Sketch Challenge and Crop! Join Cheri (Cheri T) and Theresa (tiza126) in the Scrap Girls Chat Room and get a little creative boost for your pages. Do you need help getting started? Then this is the challenge for you! A few hours before the chat begins, Cheri will post a link for you to download the sketch. Use it as the starting point for your page; be inspired by the basic arrangement; flip things around, or scraplift the whole thing - hook, line, and sinker!

• 9:00pm EDT - Speed Scrap
  It's time for some speed! Join Carla (CRS) and Shannon (tinkerbell11) for the Speed Scrap Crop! We'll give you some tasks, spread out over an hour. You'll then have an hour to get it finished and posted in the Gallery! Join us for some speed!

A Juggling Act

When I gave up my job as business manager for a telecommunications company a few years ago to support my husband in his business, I thought my days would be a little less manic, my working week a little shorter. Wrong! My days have become even more of a juggling act.

I'm up at 4:00 a.m. most mornings and, armed with a large mug of tea, settle down to a quiet couple of hours designing. Early morning is my favorite and most creative time. I look after my grandkids while their parents are working - there are five grandkids, ages 5 to 11. I'm out of the house by 7:00 a.m. to get them ready for their day and do the school run.

I'm home by 9:15 a.m., grab a bite to eat and more tea, put on my favorite music, and get back to my Photoshop. At 2:30 p.m., the school pickup run beckons and I'm off again! I need a calendar just to keep up with all the after-school activities (between the five of them, there are swimming lessons, Brownies, gymnastics, choir, recorder group, table tennis, and football). Having cooked their tea, supervised homework, listened to the younger ones read, done the odd load of washing and a bit of ironing, I hand them over to their parents again and leave for home at around 7:00 p.m.

Phew! After an evening meal and glass of wine with my husband, I spend an hour catching up with emails and Scrap Girls news.

Between brushing my teeth and passing out on my pillow, I can reflect on my day - busy, hectic, chaotic even. But full of laughter and satisfaction. Slow down? Never! I love my life!

High Noon Crop
Wednesday, October 24th - 12 Noon EDT

Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 12 Noon ET for the High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week.

On October 24th, we will be doing a ScrapSimple challenge! Create a layout using at least one Scrap Simple product. If you haven't used them before, we'll have some great ideas for you in the chat.

Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!

October's Forum Game: Posting Contest

October is Posting Contest time on the Scrap Girls Forums! You can earn a chance to win a Scrap Girls Gift Certificate by simply being chatty in the Scrap Girls Forums and Gallery. This contest will run from October 1st when we post the thread until 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on October 31st.

To enter the Scrap Girls Forum Posting Challenge, you MUST reply in the Posting Contest Thread with your current post count. Your post count is the number under your Avatar that shows when you post. (NOTE: The number found on your profile is a different number and is calculated differently.)

During the month, post your fingers off! At midnight on October 31st, we will calculate your post count based on the numbers posted in the game thread.

PRIZES

• Those with 50-99 posts will be entered in a drawing for a $5 Scrap Girls Gift Certificate.
• Those with 100-249 posts will be entered in a drawing for a $10 Scrap Girls Gift Certificate.
• Those with 250-399 posts will be entered in a drawing for a $15 Scrap Girls Gift Certificate.

October Monthly Layout Contest: October brings Halloween here in the U.S. and with Halloween comes costumes! Costumes are all around us every day, not just at Halloween. There are costumes in parades, the circus, in shows, and even at parties! Show us the costumes you've seen, and tell us about them! Post your layouts in the October Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight ET on October 31st and you could one of the two people who will win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Please be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties.

Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
