What Pins Your Interest?
While I am not a frequent user of Pinterest, I have taken a stroll through the aisles on the odd occasion. It's not that I don't like it; in fact, it's quite the opposite. I could get lost in there for hours, days even. It is an amazing place for the visual sensors, a place to connect over shared interests.
But rather than pin my interests on the world stage, images of what inspires me are collected and filed into a folder that lives on my desktop, appropriately named New Ideas. While I have heard of the saying that there is nothing new under the sun, these, however, are of new interest to me. The folder is full - bursting, in fact - with visual inspiration. On days when creativity seems to be just out of reach, my New Ideas folder sparks something new within me.
My love for visual inspiration is not limited to that folder alone; it also fills my photo library. One of my favorite categories of images would be textures. The world is filled with amazing textures, both close-up and at a distance. Most places and events I take photographs of would not be complete without including a number of texture images.
Recently while we were out and about, our son, who had taken some photos on his camera, turned to me and asked, "Mummy, do you think you could use any of these?" It was then that I realized my enjoyment for photographing textures had passed to my son. I was so excited not only because they were great images, and yes, at some stage I would enjoy using them, but because I had unknowingly created something that he and I could share together, a place to connect over a like interest.
It is a wonderful gift to be able to connect with others in our everyday lives. While at times life can be full with so many things wanting our attention, I find moments like these help me to pause, to be in the moment, and enjoy the memory being made.

New Member Chat

High Noon Crop
Wednesday, September 10th - 12 Noon EDT
Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 12 Noon ET for the High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week.
On October 10th, we'll do a patterned paper challenge! Create a layout on any theme, any topic, and any colors - using multiple patterned papers - at least 2 different patterns! Mix it up!
Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!
October's Forum Game: Posting Contest
October is Posting Contest time on the Scrap Girls Forums! You can earn a chance to win a Scrap Girls Gift Certificate by simply being chatty in the Scrap Girls Forums and Gallery. This contest will run from October 1st when we post the thread until 11:59 p.m. (EDT) on October 31st.
To enter the Scrap Girls Forum Posting Challenge, you MUST reply in the Posting Contest Thread with your current post count. Your post count is the number under your Avatar that shows when you post. (NOTE: The number found on your profile is a different number and is calculated differently.)
During the month, post your fingers off! At midnight on October 31st, we will calculate your post count based on the numbers posted in the game thread.
PRIZES
- Those with 50-99 posts will be entered in a drawing for a $5 Scrap Girls Gift Certificate.
- Those with 100-249 posts will be entered in a drawing for a $10 Scrap Girls Gift Certificate.
- Those with 250-399 posts will be entered in a drawing for a $15 Scrap Girls Gift Certificate.
- Those with 400-600 posts will be entered in a drawing for a $20 Scrap Girls Gift Certificate.
- Those with 600 or more posts will automatically win a $5 gift certificate and will be entered in all four drawings!

October Monthly Layout Contest: October brings Halloween here in the U.S. and with Halloween comes costumes! Costumes are all around us every day, not just at Halloween. There are costumes in parades, the circus, in shows, and even at parties! Show us the costumes you've seen, and tell us about them! Post your layouts in the October Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight ET on October 31st and you could one of the two people who will win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Please be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties.
