President, Scrap Girls Inc.
Right after Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 3), we will be doing some maintenance to the database that runs our storefront (Boutique). This database is where all the Scrap Girls customer order histories are stored. We have been informed that after nearly eight years in business, this database has become unwieldy, and it is recommended that we take some actions to clean it up. Therefore, we will be deleting records older than June 1, 2007.
This update will affect you in several ways:
In the past, we have always been able to help you if you had a tragedy, like losing your hard drive. After this maintenance is complete, we will only be able to look back five years to help you reconstruct what you had. Therefore, if you have products purchased before June 1, 2007, we strongly encourage you to spend some time this weekend backing up your product files.
After this update is complete, you will only be able to see your order history for orders dated June 1, 2007, to the present. If you would like to keep your pre-June 1, 2007, order history, now is the time to copy/paste that history to another document or to print off any of those records. Once the maintenance is complete, Scrap Girls will have no access to these old order histories whatsoever.
Additionally, as a result of the maintenance, any products remaining in your shopping cart will be cleared. All shopping carts will be emptied. If you like to store a bunch of digital scrapbooking products in your cart to remind yourself to buy them in the future, now is the time to make a list of those products - or better yet, just go ahead and check out and bring those products home!
In case you hadn't noticed, we are running a terrific sale right now to encourage you to clear out your shopping cart and bring those great products home!
Remember, before Labor Day (Sept. 3) is over:

Scraplifting
Article written using Adobe Photoshop CS5 with Windows 7
What is “scraplifting” and why am I writing an article about it? It sounds illegal!
Scraplifting is essentially copying a layout or being "heavily inspired" by another layout. There are many degrees of scraplifting, from the “hook, line, and sinker” version down to the "I got this tiny little idea from So-and-So's page" version.
There is nothing shameful about scraplifting. Even seasoned scrapbookers like layout artists will scraplift sometimes! When I want to finish pages quickly, I pull out my collection of JIF 6's, Assemble Your Own Zoom pages, and similar products. When my mojo has flown the coop, and I just don't feel creative, I pull out some of my favorite pages that other people have made. And yes, I even do the "hook, line, and sinker" variety of scraplifting sometimes.
The neat thing about scraplifting is that I often learn something or teach myself something in the process. In fact, in the past I have purposefully scraplifted a portion of a layout specifically to learn how to do a technique I hadn't yet tried.
A while back, I filed away Brandy Murry's page:
Layout by Brandy Murry
When I saw this layout, I knew I wanted to do something similar in the future. This assignment, plus our recent trip to California, was just the push I needed.
From Brandy's page, I took the idea of a large shape and journaling within, plus the large photo clipped to a mask. In Photoshop Elements, the way to type within a shape is to drag out a text box from the left/top to the right/bottom of the irregular shape, then fit the journaling within by carefully tabbing and spacing over in each line. In Photoshop, there are more sophisticated ways to go about this, however, that would be a class in and of itself! There are many products in the Scrap Girls Boutique with type paths already created for you that will work in both PSE and PS. Just insert "type paths" (including the quotation marks) into the Search box in the Boutique to browse these products.
We often hold a scraplift chat/challenge as well, so join in next time! One last bit of advice though, and this is very important. If you scraplift, when you upload your page to the Gallery, make sure to credit the person whose ideas you have benefitted from.
So until the next official chat/challenge, I am personally challenging you to scraplift a Scrap Girl whose work you admire and to post your page in the Gallery. I'd love to see your scraplifted pages!

August's Forum Game: BINGO
Join us for an exciting game of August BINGO on the Scrap Girls Forum!! Pick 25 words from the list provided and send them in an email to [email protected] with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your Scrap Girls Forum username" by Wednesday August 1st (Midnight EDT) in order to play in the first round. The first round will begin on Thursday, August 2nd. If you miss the first round deadline, you can still play! Just send in your BINGO card at any time during the month, and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts.
Each day (Monday through Saturday), a member of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the BINGO list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call "BINGO!" in the game thread to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards will be cleared and a new round will begin the following day.
Each winner will receive a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!
