Vacation in the Rain!
For our 15th wedding anniversary, my husband and I found ourselves playing "spin the wheel" on a small airline website as we looked through the various destinations that they offered. We were looking for somewhere that we could fly for "a deal."
We settled on Bellingham, Washington. We had no idea what this little city had to offer, other than most likely rain, but we were so excited for the adventure! As we did a little research on the Internet, we found some great activities: A whale-watching cruise with lunch and a stop at Friday Harbor, a thick tree canopy, mossy/fern-covered hikes to breath-taking waterfalls, a secluded island cabin with a hot tub in the woods, and a bed and breakfast on the lake, just to name some of the highlights.
While we were there, we found ourselves chatting with various locals, whether it was in a checkout line or at a reservations desk, and they all wanted to know why would we want to come to the rain and clouds on vacation?! They all thought we were crazy to leave sunny Las Vegas behind and seek out their climate for a vacation!
But when one loves the rain like I do, it was heavenly! During the summertime in Vegas, when it's over 105 degrees every day, the ground literally burns your feet, and you can get heat stroke and dehydration in a very short amount of time if you're not careful. Consequently, we spend most of the day cooped up inside with the air conditioning cranked. So, a cool, misty, forest-shaded mountainside is a VACATION!

I tend to love grungy textures and finishes on my scrapbooking layouts. They help disguise imperfections – which I love. I feel like my whole life is spent trying to disguise imperfections as I try to raise four boys, work, serve in my church, and still have a somewhat pleasant surrounding!

High Noon Crop
Wednesday, August 22nd - 12 Noon EDT
Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 12 Noon EDT for the High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week.
On August 22nd, we'll do a Nature Challenge! Create a layout that shows nature in some way. It could be flowers, wildlife, camping - anything that highlights nature.
Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!
ScrapSimple Club Chat

Join Shannon (tinkerbell11) in our Chat room for the monthly ScrapSimple Club Chat! Share our ideas to use the month's club and have some fun chatting. Post your layouts in the Scrap Girls ScrapSimple Club Members gallery, and you may win a prize if it is chosen to be featured in the Newsletter.
August's Forum Game: BINGO
Join us for an exciting game of August BINGO on the Scrap Girls Forum!! Pick 25 words from the list provided and send them in an email to [email protected] with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your Scrap Girls Forum username" by Wednesday August 1st (Midnight EDT) in order to play in the first round. The first round will begin on Thursday, August 2nd. If you miss the first round deadline, you can still play! Just send in your BINGO card at any time during the month, and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts.
Each day (Monday through Saturday), a member of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the BINGO list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call "BINGO!" in the game thread to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards will be cleared and a new round will begin the following day.
Each winner will receive a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!

August Monthly Layout Contest: Summer vacation time! We'd love to see your layouts featuring your summer vacations! Have you gone on the trip of a lifetime? Or an annual trip with family or friends? Have you had a fun staycation right in your own town? We'd love to get a glimpse into how you spend your vacation and why you chose spend your time that way! Post your layouts in the August Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight EDT on August 31st and you could one of the two people who will win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Please be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties.
Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery.
