Note from Debbie: Since becoming President of Scrap Girls, it's been fascinating to learn about all the pieces that come together to make the website you love. What has impressed me the most is the fantastic group of women behind the scenes who make it all happen. Their skills and talents are immeasurable and as unique as they are. Meeting them has been so enjoyable for me that I want to spend the next few weeks letting you get to know them better, too.
Debbie Cleek
President, Scrap Girls Inc.
A few weeks back, I got an email asking my opinion about something related to one of the Clubs that was scheduled for March 2013. Mind you, this was in July 2012. I couldn't believe that we were working that far in advance! But the more I've learned about what goes into creating the amazing Club selections we offer you each month, the more I'm realizing it's necessary to be thinking nine months ahead. In fact, one of the designers I talked to compared the amount of work it takes to create a Scrap Girls Club selection to going through labor.
One of the main people who helps make the two Clubs happen each month is Andrea Trump. She's known as the Scrap Girls Executive Assistant, but really she acts as everyone's assistant. This is because Andrea's main role is to work with our designers to make sure that all of their Club selections make a smooth transition into our Boutique. This includes keeping the designers on schedule, quality-checking all the products, making sure the layouts that feature the products are ready, and getting everything uploaded to our website on time. So when you come online on the 1st or 15th of the month, all the beautiful new Club products and layouts magically appear!
Andrea came to Scrap Girls as a designer after completing a designer apprentice program. Though she loves designing, when Scrap Girls announced that they were looking to hire an assistant, something just spoke to her. She had worked as an executive assistant in the past and knew she had a knack for helping people. She was given a "test task" to complete, and when she over-delivered in every way, she was hired on the spot.
Andrea has found the combination of working from home and designing to be perfect for raising her two kids and maintaining an active lifestyle. She loves all things fitness-related, and most impressively, she is training for her black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She also has a love of all things techy and is currently enamored with her new Google tablet. This combination seems to make her happy since her emails are always full of hugs and LOLs. She lives in Ottawa, Canada, and seems to convey her Canadian accent into her emails as well.
This fall Andrea is going to try her hand at being her own assistant, since she is the scheduled designer for the November Scrap Girls Club selection. We are all excited to see what she comes up with!
