Terrific Title Tips
Tutorial created using Photoshop CS5 on a Mac
With summer coming to an end, it's time to get those "Fun in the Sun" photos scrapped. Selecting a great title can put the finishing touch on a layout that will give it the Wow-Wow factor that catches the viewer's attention. In this article, you will find a few tips to stimulate your imagination as you create your layouts recording those memorable summer events.
Fill the open spaces of the lettering using papers that complement the theme of the layout. Create a focal point by increasing the size of one alpha and accessorize with embellishments. In this example, I pulled the alphas from the La Di Da Collection Biggie and accented it with embellishments from that collection and also Squirt Embellishment Biggie.
Tilt one letter. By enlarging and tilting a lowercase alpha (such as the "e" in this example), mixed with uppercase alphas, your title will be more interesting and playful. This also provides an opportunity to dangle an embellishment. Making one or two words of your title bold will also call attention and help the viewer focus on the theme. The alpha in this title is from the Take Wing Collection Biggie.
Combine word art with alphas. Personalize the word art provided by the Scrap Girls' designers by adding your own special touch. In the example below, the jagged edges on the Sizzler alpha were created by going to Filter> Distort> Ripple, adjusting the amount, and adding a stroke. Also remember that you can change the color of any piece of word art to fit your layout's palette. You can make dramatic color changes or just slight variances as was done with the word art, SUMMER. This sample uses Squirt Collection Biggie, Molly Milkshakes Collection Biggie, ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Mirror Reflections Mini 8501, and Cute Critters Embellishment Mini.
Use an ampersand to connect two words. Apply a stroke on a separate layer and offset slightly by moving up and over. You will find great ampersands in most collections containing alphas. I used pieces of these collections to pull together the title below: Squirt Collection Biggie, Swim Like a Fish Embellishment Biggie.
Combine alphas from different collections. Here's a quick organizing tip for your digital scrapbooking stash: Create a folder on your computer and copy all the alpha marketing pages from your Scrap Girls collections into it; this allows you to instantly access and view all your alphas at once, which makes selecting and comparing so much easier. Use shapes as a backdrop for the alpha to give even more definition to the title. This fun, blocky title mixes up alphas and shapes from ScrapSimple Tools - Shapes: Fancy 6301, Super 7 Spread: Sweet Life, Alphabetica Alpha and Word Art, Vroom Collection Mini, and Dynamic Brush Set: Fruity Biggie.
Applying a ScrapSimple Style to a font will add instant personality. You can find a style to suit any occasion in the Scrap Girls Tools Category. For this sample, I used ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Splashed-Summer 13001 Biggie applied to a font and used an embellishment from Swim Like A Fish Embellishment Biggie.
Spreading your title throughout the layout helps the viewer see every detail by carrying the eye across the page. In the example layout below, also notice that the title "Fun Summer" follows the edge of the photograph. There are many ways to add titles to a scrapbook page to make it more meaningful and interesting. Give it a try, and I bet you can come up with even more wonderful ways to highlight your summer titles!

Summer Games "Team Spirit" Layout Contest
The Scrap Girls Forum includes members from all over the world. To celebrate this, we are having a Team Spirit Layout Contest! To enter the contest, create a layout focusing on your country or state that shows your team spirit and upload your page to the Scrap Girls Summer Games Gallery by 11:59pm EDT on Tuesday, July 31st. You can find ideas and more details in the Scrap Girls Summer Games Forum. The winner will receive a $20 Scrap Girls Boutique Gift Certificate!
Summer Games Embellishment Hunt!

After you have finished searching, send an email to [email protected] with the subject line: "Embellishment Hunt." Include your Forum username, the name of the product where you found the embellishment and a link to its product page in the Scrap Girls Boutique for each of the twenty items.
Emails must be received by 11:59PM EDT on Tuesday, July 31st.

High Noon Crop
Wednesday, August 1st - 12 Noon EDT
Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 12 Noon EDT for the High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week.
On August 1st, we'll do a "Push Yourself" challenge! Create a layout that really pushes your personal style - either something you've never done before, or a layout that is very much your style - just INTENSELY your style!
Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!
Creative Cards Chat
Tuesday, August 7th - 9:00 PM EDT
Do you use your digital supplies to make cards? Do you want to? Instead of going to the store every time you need a card, you can save money and have fun making cards with your digi stash! Make a note of any cards you might need for the upcoming month and join April (April Showers) for the once-a-month Card Chat on the first Tuesday of each month at 9pm ET. This month, we'll focus on how to use ScrapSimple Layout Templates to create unique greeting cards.
July's Forum Game: Spotlight on the Boutique
Each day of July (with the exception of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post an image spotlighting a small circle of the layout you are to search for in the Scrap Girls Boutique. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout; this will be repeated until the product is identified.
All you have to do to participate is search the boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. Only one guess per member per day is allowed. You can find more specific details in the forum game thread.
Three $10 gift certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique will be awarded. The winners will be randomly chosen from all the members that correctly identify a product throughout the month.

July Monthly Layout Contest: Hot! Hot! Hot! In the northern hemisphere, July is generally a month of very warm temperatures. For July's layout contest, we want you to scrap about what you do to stay cool – whether it'is in July or December. Post your layouts in the July Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight EDT on July 31st and you could one of the two people who will win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Please be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties.
Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
