Using One Large Photo
Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS6 with Windows
I create digital scrapbooking layouts with one large photo for two main reasons. When I only have one photo of a person or event, such as heritage photos, I don't have any other options. Other times I have a wonderful photo that I want set apart from the rest on its own page. For this tutorial, I chose a favorite photo from my daughter's wedding.
The colorful flowers in the background of this photo could compete with the clustering I usually do on my layouts, so I chose to keep this page very simple. Try working along with me to create your own page.
Start by adding the photo, a paper template from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Blendability, and a background paper that matches the photo borders. Arrange the layers so the background paper is the bottom layer and the photo is above the paper template layer.
With the photo layer selected, create a clipping mask (Alt+Ctrl+G). This gives the photo the soft edges of the paper template which should blend smoothly into the background paper. On my page, the mask was a bit larger than the photo, so it left gray areas at the top and bottom. To remedy this, simply transform the paper template (Ctrl+T), pulling in the top and bottom until it covers the edges of your photo.
Next, add ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Pop Up to frame the photo. I only added the arch and shadow layers to the page making sure they were above the photo, mask, and background layers. There are several ways to add color to the paper template; I used a damask paper with a clipping mask and changed the Blending Mode to "Overlay," which allows the texture of the paper template to show through.
Finally, I added word art and a piece of lace to dress up the page. The happy couple is the main focus of the layout, and as an added bonus, it went together quite quickly. When you complete your page, be sure to post it in the Newsletter Tutorial Layouts Gallery of the Scrap Girls Forum.

July's Forum Game: Spotlight on the Boutique
Each day of July (with the exception of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post an image spotlighting a small circle of the layout you are to search for in the Scrap Girls Boutique. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout; this will be repeated until the product is identified.
All you have to do to participate is search the boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. Only one guess per member per day is allowed. You can find more specific details in the forum game thread.
Three $10 gift certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique will be awarded. The winners will be randomly chosen from all the members that correctly identify a product throughout the month.
