Mix & Match Digital Layout Templates to Make Them New
Do you love digital layout templates as much as I do? I have lots of templates, and I use them all the time. If you use your templates as they are, then your layouts can start to look the same or at least very similar to each other.
Maybe you've learned the trick of rotating or flipping the templates to make them look a little bit different. Well, I like to change it up and go wild with my templates sometimes - and I'm going to show you how I do it! Hopefully, it will revive some of your old favorite templates but still allow them to look different than the other layouts you've created by using them.
I'm going to show you what I did with one layout in particular. First, I picked out three templates from three different products. (If you really want to go wild, you can do what I did and use three different designers' products.) I chose one to be my base template; the one that I plan to stick most closely to. Then I chose elements from the other two templates. I resized them and changed the angles and placed them on the first template in the locations I felt worked best. Then I removed some of the elements from the base template that no longer worked. Below, you will see the three templates I used.
After I came to a result I liked, I made one more tweak. The photo of my son has his face angled towards the left. With the original template this would have him facing "off the page." From a design standpoint, that doesn't really work. You never want the viewer's eye to be wandering off the page. So I flipped the entire newly-redesigned template horizontally - and this fixed my problem! Here is the final template I ended up working with.
From here I worked as I usually do, bringing in papers and elements and adding styles, drop shadows, and text until I concluded with a beautiful new layout. It doesn't look much like the original base template, nor does it look like the other two templates, but they combined nicely to make a wonderful finished product.
I hope you'll go back and look at all of your digital layout templates in your stash and see them in a whole new light. No one says you have to keep them the way the designers designed them. You won't hurt their feelings if you don't, either. In fact, I can guarantee that they will love to see them mixed up and matched with other templates. So mix it up! Then post them in the Scrap Girls Newsletter Tutorial Layouts Gallery and show us what you came up with!

July's Forum Game: Spotlight on the Boutique
Each day of July (with the exception of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post an image spotlighting a small circle of the layout you are to search for in the Scrap Girls Boutique. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout; this will be repeated until the product is identified.
All you have to do to participate is search the boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. Only one guess per member per day is allowed. You can find more specific details in the forum game thread.
Three $10 gift certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique will be awarded. The winners will be randomly chosen from all the members that correctly identify a product throughout the month.
