New Beginnings
I did a little something at the end of 2012 that wasn't in our budget... I joined a gym. Well, the joining of the gym wasn't it. It was hiring a personal trainer and signing a contract for six months’ worth of sessions that wasn't in our budget. As I was doing it, I knew we really couldn't afford it.
But for the first time in a long while, I decided to take care of myself. It wasn't that I couldn't get strong and active on my own; I've done that many times. I wanted to correct specifics: Forever, I've had weak neck and shoulder muscles. For me, this leads to frequent headaches and lots and lots of slouching. Actually, I just continued to slouch because sitting up straight hurt. I've also gained some weight since I hadn't exercised at all for two years. Not that anybody would notice; they all say I look great. But for me, it's not the weight that bothers me. I'd be happy to stay this weight forever... if I was stronger and able to be active. But I wasn't. I wasn't eating well, and I was lazy.
Fast forward to today. I had my last session today with that trainer, Jamie. Remember, the half-my-age cutie I talked about in my last article?! Of course, even though it was the last session, I didn't get any breaks... he was not any easier on me. If anything, he was harder on me, pushing me out on my own. In a way, I'm really excited. In another way, I'm super scared. Will I be able to keep up what I've accomplished while Jamie trained me? Will I be able to grow and accomplish the new goals I've set? I feel like six months ago, I had a new beginning. Perhaps it’s time for another.
New beginnings... hmm. The other day I went to step class for the first time in probably two-and-a-half years. Man, it was T-O-U-G-H. Wow! But you know what? Even though it's been such a long time, it came back to me. Yep, I probably looked silly when I was going in the wrong direction, up on the step when I should have been down, and standing/panting when everybody else was jumping... but I got a glimpse of myself in the mirror at one point, and I think I actually stared. No slouching. None. I think I've probably slouched my whole life; now here, the person I was looking at in the mirror was standing tall, looking strong, confident, and proud. Oh my gosh.
I'm not saying to go blow your budget to get something that will make you feel better. But what I am saying is that for me, it's one of the best things that I've ever done for myself. Today I stand tall, proud, and brave every day, and I no longer feel tired and run down when I do so!

High Noon Crop
Wednesday, July 25th - 12 Noon EDT
Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 12 Noon EDT for the High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week.
On July 25th, we'll do a tag challenge! Create a layout using at least one tag as an embellishment!
Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!
July's Forum Game: Spotlight on the Boutique
Each day of July (with the exception of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post an image spotlighting a small circle of the layout you are to search for in the Scrap Girls Boutique. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout; this will be repeated until the product is identified.
All you have to do to participate is search the boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. Only one guess per member per day is allowed. You can find more specific details in the forum game thread.
Three $10 gift certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique will be awarded. The winners will be randomly chosen from all the members that correctly identify a product throughout the month.

July Monthly Layout Contest: Hot! Hot! Hot! In the northern hemisphere, July is generally a month of very warm temperatures. For July's layout contest, we want you to scrap about what you do to stay cool – whether it'is in July or December. Post your layouts in the July Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight EDT on July 31st and you could one of the two people who will win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Please be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties.
Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
