Designing A Canvas Art Project
Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.0 with Windows Vista
Wow! Have you checked out this month's Scrap Girls Club collection yet? It's bursting with yummy colors and bright, lively embellishments! If you haven't seen it yet, you're missing out on some serious eye candy!
Durin Eberhart's Fascination Collection Biggie is a must-have in your digital art collection! When I first opened my downloaded files, I immediately fell in love and couldn't wait to play with the pieces Durin has designed for us.
I was asked to create a craft with this juicy collection, and since I am more of a digital crafter then a paper crafter, I started trying to figure out what I could create digitally outside of a scrapbooking layout. It didn't take me long to figure out what I wanted to do. With all those bright, lively colors, I knew I just had to turn them into some sort of wall art. I wanted those gorgeous colors and textures displayed on my walls!
I decided the best way to have them showcased was on canvas. There are many different places where you can print your own unique canvas art, such as snapfish.com, shutterfly.com, artscow.com, mpix.com, etc. Each one of these printing resources offers many different sizes of canvases, and some have discount coupons available when you sign up for their mailing lists.
Canvas art is an easy way to go, because designing it is a lot like creating a scrapbooking layout. Once it's done, all you have to do is upload it to a printing site and wait for it to be delivered to your doorstep. And once it's on your walls, guests will be asking where you got that stunning work of art. Just think how astonished they will be when you say, "I made it!"
Let me show you how I made canvas art for my daughter's room using this month's club collection.
First, I determined which printing site I wanted to use and picked a canvas from those they offered. Then I opened my Photoshop Elements program and created a document adding four inches to both the width and height from the canvas measurements. For example, the canvas size I wanted to print was a 20x8-inch wrapped canvas, and the PSE design was created on a 24x12-inch document. You need to allow an extra two inches on each side of your design for wrapping around the canvas's frame.
By clicking on the ruler bar and dragging it down to my layout, I was able to create grid lines so I could easily view the original canvas size.

Next, I proceeded to create my canvas art design inside the grid lines. Note: the paper on the edge of my design will be printed on the canvas but will only be visible on the edges and back of my canvas frame. Try and keep the main portion of your design inside the grid lines.

Finally, I uploaded my image to my printing resource and followed the printing and check-out steps - then waited as patiently as possible for my art to make it to my home.
Now, keep in mind that canvas printing can be costly. If printing a canvas isn't in your budget, but you still want to make gorgeous art for your walls, try printing art on larger papers and then framing them. The possibilities are endless!

July's Forum Game: Spotlight on the Boutique
Each day of July (with the exception of Sundays), a member of the Welcoming Committee will post an image spotlighting a small circle of the layout you are to search for in the Scrap Girls Boutique. If the layout is not identified by the following morning, a second spotlight circle will be added to the layout; this will be repeated until the product is identified.
All you have to do to participate is search the boutique for the layout and post a link to the product page in the official game thread. Only one guess per member per day is allowed. You can find more specific details in the forum game thread.
Three $10 gift certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique will be awarded. The winners will be randomly chosen from all the members that correctly identify a product throughout the month.
For complete details, visit the Monthly Forum Games folder on the Scrap Girls Forum.
