A "sheet" consists of a grouping of items that will fit on an 8.5x11 document. Take care to make sure that the collection mini's color set is well balanced and that it has an idea that ties it together. It should contain enough embellishments and word art to be useful to someone who wishes to make several layouts from it. Also, take care that the embellishments are not a grouping of a small number of items that have just been re-colored. This is your opportunity to show your versatility and skill level.
Examples of all of these products can be found in our Boutique.
Also, please answer the following questions in the body of your application email:
Other instructions: Save your files as 600px wide, 72 dpi. Place them in one zipped folder and forward with your application email.
DEADLINE: Friday, July 13, 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Time)
Notifications of results will be sent to all applicants by Friday, July 20.
If a talented person comes along whose skills are not quite what they might be, but we feel they would be a super-committed, dynamic member of our team if given a little help, we may choose to put them through an apprentice program.
We look forward to seeing your application!
Designer Do-Over by Jan Ransley
Article written using Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Windows 7
It makes me smile when I look back over my old albums - the photos are great and bring back all sorts of memories, but some of my earliest attempts at creating digital scrapbooking layouts really make me giggle.
Take this layout, for example: the photos of my darling little granddaughter are great, but they're lost in a sea of over-busy papers and elements with mismatched or no shadows. Time for a Do-Over!
The Do-Over
I chose a simple background for my new layout - this one is from my Valentine Baroque Collection - and I placed the two photos off-center. Then I added bright mats angled behind them to make the photos "pop."
A couple of strips of paper created a base for the photo cluster. To "cut" these strips, I dropped in my chosen background paper and used the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create the shape I wanted to cut. The shape is bordered by "marching ants." To cut away the surrounding paper, I simply used the Invert command (Ctrl+Shft+I). This created a second set of marching ants around the outer border of the paper. Clicking the Delete key removed all the unwanted background paper between the two sets of marching ants. I repeated this with a second paper.
Next, I built up the cluster with flowers, ribbons, etc., and added some word art.
Finally, I dropped in a lace overlay - from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: More Luscious Lace - over the background paper. I changed its color and gave it a light bevel and emboss layer style.
The truth is that I did this partly to appease my husband. He had looked at my layout and said, "It's not finished, is it? What about all this empty space?"
I explained, "It's white space - it's in vogue!"
He retreated, shaking his head and muttering something that sounded like, "I'm not gonna mention that it's pink."
Now my new layout lets my granddaughter's pictures perform as the star, while the digital scrapbooking papers, word art, and embellishments are supporting cast members – and that's the way it should be!
