Mourning Dove, Morning Companion
There's a large holly tree in our yard right outside my office window. My husband wants to cut it down. I can understand why, from his point of view. It's overgrown and hard to prune. It's messy because it drops berries and leaves all year long. It's in the path between our back door and the barbecue grill, and the pointy leaves are hard on bare feet.
But he understands my point of view, too. It's eternally green, even in the dead of winter. I cut branches from it at Christmas time and use them to make wreaths and garlands. I've even scanned a branch and used it to make a digital paper! The berries provide food for robins and other birds, and it's a joy to watch them through the window from my desk. And it provides a home for my morning companion – a little mourning dove.
I hear her mournful sounding cry every day. She makes her home deep in the thick branches, so I don't often see her. But sometimes I'm rewarded with a glimpse of her – like the snowy morning when she came to the edge of the tree to look around. She stayed there and watched me as I watched her. She waited for me to get my camera, then she posed for a few photos. Eventually, one of my moves startled her, and she flew away. But she blessed me with the sound of her whistling wings as she took off into the air.
So, we'll keep the holly tree, and I hope she will stay with us for a long time.

East Coast High Noon Crop

Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 10am MT for the East Coast High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week.
On April 11th, we're doing a Humor Challenge! Use a funny photo, tell a funny story, or share a family inside joke! Show your sense of humor on your page!
Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!
April's Forum Game: BINGO!
Join us for an exciting game of Springtime BINGO on the Message Board Forum in April! Pick 25 words from the list provided in the forum game thread and send them in an email to [email protected] with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your Scrap Girls Message Board username" by Tuesday, April 3rd at Midnight MDT in order to play in the first round. The first round will begin on Wednesday, April 4th. If you miss the first round deadline, you can still play! Just send in your BINGO card at any time during the month, and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts.
Each day, a member of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the BINGO list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call "BINGO!" in the game thread to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards will be cleared and a new round will begin the following day.
Each winner will receive a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!

April Monthly Layout Contest: Life is full of surprises! Here in the United States, we have April Fools' Day on April 1st. Have you ever been surprised by someone playing an April Fools' joke on you? Or, you can scrap about another surprise that has happened in your life. You don't have to have photos. It could be a journaling page. Post your layouts in the April Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MDT on April 30th. Be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. Two layouts will be selected to win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery.
