Have you ever had a love/hate relationship? I have an ongoing one with my camera. She's a fickle little lady. Oh, she can be counted on to be there for those life milestones like birthdays, school plays, and T-ball games, but she is rarely around for those breath-holding moments that flitter across my path.
Case in point: One day I was sitting in the garden enjoying the late summer breeze when directly in front of me flew a tiny iridescent hummingbird. In the split-second before he reacted to the knowledge that I was there, I just froze and stared, drinking in the sight while holding my breath. After he flew off, I ran into the house to get the camera, just in case the hummingbird came back. Now that the camera was there, I was ready - but the hummingbird was gone for the day.
The next day, after learning my lesson the day before, I made sure to take my camera for my drive to an appointment. I knew that this country drive should stir up something I'd want to capture with my camera because I have routinely seen herons - and bemoaned the fact that I didn't have a camera with me. The camera sat poised on the seat beside me, the lens cap off, ready at a moment's notice. I didn't have too long to wait. At the halfway point, a serene doe stepped from the edge of a cornfield, and I was still about a quarter of a mile away with no one else in sight. The stage was set, and all I needed to do was point and click. Simple, huh? You would think so, but this is my life we're talking about... nothing is quite that simple.
With my hand ready to switch my camera on, I discovered that it was already in the On position - with a dark blank screen. Drat! A dead camera. I turned my attention back to the graceful doe and watched as she slipped back into the cornfield as silently as she came. The fact that I had missed my one chance bugged me for the next few miles, so I picked up the camera to try to figure out what had happened. I have never put it away without turning it off, so why was it dead now? Puzzling over it, I flipped the switch - and it came to life.
I have now come to this conclusion. As for me, I'm supposed to hold my breath and marvel at God's creations as they are placed before me and just drink them in with a simple prayer of thanks. If someday I'm ever fortunate enough to finally get that picture, I'm sure it will pale next to the real thing, but I will have been lucky enough to see the original.

March's Message Board Game: Simple Steps to Super Scrapping
This month's Scrap Girls Forum game, Simple Steps to Super Scrapping, is designed to help you get more scrapbook pages done with a series of simple steps that add up to a finished page at the end of each week.
Throughout March, Monday through Saturday, a team member will post a daily layout step in the Simple Steps to Super Scrapping game thread; the first week has 9 steps, and the remaining three weeks have 6 steps each. These steps will be posted in large purple font so they will be easy to spot.
Members who complete the steps required in the game thread and post all 4 layouts in the Simple Steps to Super Scrapping Gallery will be entered in a drawing for one of two $15.00 Scrap Girls Boutique Gift Certificates.
Each completed layout posted in the Simple Steps to Super Scrapping Gallery, up to 4 per member, will be entered in a drawing for one of three $5.00 Scrap Girls Boutique Gift Certificates.
You have until 11:59pm MDT on March 31, 2012 to complete the steps and post your layouts to the Simple Steps to Super Scrapping Gallery.
For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Forum.
