Well, When You Say It That Way...
See if you can recognize these idioms – in their metric form:
29.6 milliliters of prevention is worth 0.0453592 kilograms of cure.
Give him 2.54 centimeters and he takes 1.50934 kilometers.
Did you figure it out? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Give him an inch and he takes a mile. Yeah, it just doesn’t roll off the tongue quite the same when you convert it to metric.
However little you use the metric system of measurements (and here in America, I’m betting that’s not too often; our global friends are much more adept at it than we are), I wanted to let you know about a handy little chart I’ve posted on my other website, HowMomDidIt.com.
http://howmomdidit.com/2011/01/measurementconversion-tables/
Here’s a quick little chart for converting length to metric:
IMPERIAL TO METRIC LENGTH CONVERSION CHART
Rather than be bum-fuzzled by what those “-liter” and “-meter” words all mean, just keep this next list handy when you need to make a kitchen conversion of a measurement... or in case you want to impress your grandchild with your vast knowledge of wisdom.
“Grandma, can I have a cup of juice?”
“Sure, sweetie. Did you want 236.59 milliliters exactly or do you just want me to round it up to 240 milliliters?”
US TO UK MEASUREMENTS CONVERSTION TABLE
Another handy thing you’ll find at HowMomDidIt.com is a conversion chart for a whole other language of kitchen-ese: Can Sizes to Cups.
Some older recipes, especially those from our grandmothers' era, had ingredients that used the # sign to designate a volume of measurement. While this may seem entirely odd to us, think about the era in which that came about. The sudden abundance of canned goods in the early part of the 20th century was a huge breakthrough for the family cook. She could grab a #5 can of stewed tomatoes and instantly fast-forward her evening meal by not having to wash, cook, and peel a basket full of fresh tomatoes.
CAN SIZES TO CUPS CONVERSION CHART
Inching my way toward more metric thinking,

Using Lace Brushes
Tutorial created using Photoshop CS3 with Macintosh OSX 5.6
I have to admit that I am a little rusty in doing layouts. Life takes twists and turns, and I have had to take a while off from painting and creating digital scrapbooking designs. So, all that to say, it was good to do this tutorial to make sure I remembered how to start a layout. How simple to have a supply of brushes that makes it so easy to get back in gear!
First, I placed one of the designs from my Brush Set: Lace 9801 in the middle of my 12x12-inch document.
One of the nice things about brushes is that they are so easily sized and recolored. So flexible, so adaptable!
I continued with my layout, layering different backgrounds behind the lace. Once I decided that the lace would be on top of the yellow paper, I set the lace layer to "Lock," filled it with white, turned the Opacity to 65%, added a slight bevel and emboss, and finally rotated it a bit.
Here is my finished layout.
