Here are some great quotes from things I've been reading recently. I hope they are useful to you.
"Don't abandon your post. In time the Lord will allow all things to work out for your good." - Carl C. Cook
"As important as it is to learn Heavenly Father's plan for your lives, we sometimes get so caught up [wanting] to know every detail start to finish, that we become afraid to act. Don't fall into this trap. Make good choices using your best judgment and move forward with your life. We are blessed to make choices. Don't be afraid to make choices because you are afraid of making mistakes. Don't be afraid to try new things. In doing so, you will find joy in the journey." - Carl C. Cook
"Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustment will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all." - Norman Vincent Peale
"Addressing the problem, and then taking this second step to fix the cause of the problem, distinguishes the people who are in control from the people who are not in control - the successful from the unsuccessful." - Sam Carpenter in Work the System
"Admit it. You ain't perfect." - Ross Shafer in Nobody Moved Your Cheese
"Tough times hit everybody. Truly successful people expect it but keep getting out of bed. I have undying respect for anybody who has survived and thrived after having been wiped out by illness, divorce, or other natural disasters." - Ross Shafer in Nobody Moved Your Cheese
"The best way to achieve more is to do less. Less is more when we concentrate on the few things that are truly important, not the least of which is happiness for ourselves and our loved ones." - Richard Koch in Living the 80/20 Way
"Worry is never useful. When we find ourselves worrying, we should either act and not worry, or decide not to act and not worry. If we can act to avoid a bad fate or reduce its chance of happening - and the action is worthwhile - then we should act and not worry. If, on the other hand, we can't control or influence what will happen, then worrying will cause us distress but not help us; we should not act and not worry. Worries will always arise but we can do without them, instantly deciding to act or not act, but in either case not to worry." - Richard Koch in Living the 80/20 Way
Muse: To be absorbed in one's thoughts; engage in meditation. Not intended to solve the world's problems, another person's problems, or to cover topics completely. One does not have to agree with musings to enjoy them, just as one does not have to be the same as someone else to appreciate who they are.
Would you like to earn a $20 Gift Certificate? Send your own muse to [email protected]. If it is selected for publication in the Scrap Girls newsletter, you'll get to have fun shopping!

How to Use ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Embossy Boots to Add Texture to Your Layouts
Tutorial created using Photoshop CS5 with Windows 7
The series of ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Embossy Boots are a cool way of adding texture to your digital scrapbooking layouts. The quickest and easiest way to use an Embossy Boots template is to recolor it to match your layout. Let me show you how I use them.
First, open your chosen template. I am working here with one from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Embossy Boots Floral Collection One.
Recolor the template to match your layout: Image> Adjustments> Hue/Saturation (or simply Ctrl+U). Check the "Colorize" button, then use the Saturation and Lightness sliders to get the desired effect.
Try recoloring with a gradient:
Open your chosen Embossy Boots template. I've used one from ScrapSimple Templates: Embossy Boots Making Waves.
Open a new layer on top of the template, color it with a gradient fill, and then change the Blending Mode of this new layer to "Overlay."
Use your template to create texture on a patterned paper:
Open your selected paper and drag and drop an Embossy Boots template onto it to create a second layer. Use Blending Modes on the top layer to create a completely new look to your paper. The following example shows the effects achieved by using these Blending Modes:
Use your template to add texture to a photograph:
In this example, I have used a template from the ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Embossy Boots Basics Collection to add a canvas texture by simply dropping the template on top of the photo and changing its Blending Mode to Overlay (100%).
The layout below uses the Swiss Dots template from ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Embossy Boots Basics Collection One, over which I have placed a gradient overlay.
I am sure you will find many other ways to use these versatile templates. I'd love for you to share the results of your experiments in the Scrap Girls Gallery. Have fun!
