"One of the things I've loved doing lately is starting to put together my family's life scrapbook. I've loved telling our everyday stories to those of great significance. I tried putting together the Story Telling Collection Mini to help record some of those incidents in a way that can be both used for either masculine or feminine layouts. Is there a story you'd like to tell?" 1. Are you an early morning designer or do you burn the midnight candle? I am an early morning person. I get up at 4:45 in the morning, and try to get as much design time is as possible before my kids get up and I need to get them off to school. For some reason, I cannot keep my eyes open much past 9pm (probably because of getting up early), so I rarely tend to burn the midnight oil, unless I'm in the middle of a project I am really excited about and just cannot stop. 2. Soda, coffee or other? Water. I can't get enough of the stuff. I've never been much of a pop drinker and just don't like it much. So it's either water or juice for me. |

He Sees Me
When I realized that this muse would appear on Valentine's Day, I knew that I wanted to tell you a little story about Gary.
I recently had an interesting discussion with my son-in-law. We were discussing marriages and what they can be like when he suddenly said, "Gary adores you."
I blushed and said, "Yes, I know that."
He smiled, "You can see it whenever he looks at you."
I blushed again.
He nodded and said, "The first time I met you guys, Gary was in the foyer, and you came down the stairs. When he saw you, his face lit up, and I could tell that he adores you. I said to myself, 'I want that.' I never saw that before because that's not how things were with my parents."
I replied, "I'm the peppery one in the family. We don't fight because Gary is always patient with me. If you want to know how to treat your wife, watch him. You'll have a happy marriage."
I've often thought that the Lord loves me because He sent me someone who loves me so much. Everything has been so crazy in our lives – I could tell you stories that would make your hair stand on end – but throughout it all, Gary has been there just loving me and keeping me sane.
Happy Valentine's Day, Gary. I love you.

Customizing Drop Shadows
Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS3 with Windows 7
One of my favorite ways to add a little dimension and put the finishing touches on my layouts is to add drop shadows. However, I remember when first starting out with digital scrapping, I was a little intimidated by drop shadows and not really sure how to use them. If you are like me (a little scared) and/or prefer to go about things the easy way, you are in luck because the Scrap Girls designers have some wonderful drop shadow products in the Boutique that make it easy for you to add them to your layouts:

- ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Deep Shadows 6501 PSE and PS Biggie
- ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Butterfly Shadows 6301 Mini
What's great about these products is you can use them without any modifications and end up with a polished and realistic looking layout. Or you can easily tweak the drop shadow to make it a little more your own.
For this layout, I wanted to give a little more separation between my element and the drop shadow. I first started by adding my drop shadow style. My go-to for shadows is ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Basic Shadows 6501. I use these shadows on nearly every one of my layouts. Let me show you how.
First, after running the style (and with the curser hovering over the shadow style), right-click and select "Create Layer." This will move the shadow to its own layer. Now that the element and shadow are independent of one another, we can customize the look of the shadow.
Using the Transform Tool, make the element layer just slightly smaller than the shadow layer by holding down the Shift key while bringing in the lower right side of the element layer (just a little). I think this adds more dimension to the layout.
There you go! It's as easy as that! Look to the Scrap Girls Boutique when you need some help on making perfect shadows!

These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week. On February 15th, we will be doing a ScrapSimple challenge! Create a layout using at least one ScrapSimple product. If you haven't used them before, we'll have some great ideas for you in the chat.
