Into Focus
Over Christmas, Jeroen and I were at a friend's house for a holiday dinner. He had some reading glasses lying around, and I grabbed them and put them on for fun. To my amazement, everything suddenly became more focused and clear. I didn't even realize I may need glasses. I asked him what strength they were, and he told me they were 2.5... 2.5?!
Shouldn't I have noticed that I needed that much correction? Ummm... well, apparently not.
I was a little shocked. Eyesight has been a scary thing in my family since my mother lost her eyesight several years ago. No warning, the doctors can't even tell us why. I keep thinking, I can't lose my eyesight... I'm a designer... what would I do?
This week I made an appointment to see the optician, and my exam is this Friday. I'll let you know how it goes. But suffice it to say, the next time you see me, I may have some new (and of course, fashionable) eye wear!
Some advice? Have your eyes checked. Like me, you might not even realize your eyes need correcting.

I love these papers because they just go with everything from brights to more subdued layouts. I find myself going to them again and again. I recently made them for 12x12-inch layouts, too, so I could use them in other sizes of layouts. My favorite paper is #7.

What are Layer Your Own Brushes?

Do you like your digital scrapbooking layouts to have that one-of-a-kind flair? Do you love to give the designs your own personal look?
If so, then you will love Scrap Girls’ ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brush Sets! With these sets, you can create many different and entirely unique embellishments for digital scrapbooking.
What are these sets all about? ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brushes are brush pieces that can be layered together to create an embellishment. The base shape of the embellishment is provided in the brush set. Included in the set will be a pattern, a texture, and/or more shapes to mix and match to the base. You add your own color and creativity! Each Layer Your Own Brushes Set comes with a set of PNGs and an ABR brush file.
ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brushes: Butterfly Fairy Wings
Today, I’m going to use ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brushes: Butterfly Fairy Wings to show you some examples and samples of how Layer Your Own Brushes work.
For this one, I recolored the base light blue by using the Color Overlay layer effect. The pattern piece is on top of the base and got a Color Overlay of a darker shade of blue. On a duplicate layer of the flower pattern, I used the Paint Brush Tool to color some of the flowers yellow, pink, and green.
These purple wings are three separate pieces of the Layer Your Own Brush Set. I stacked the veining and the outline on top of the base. The base got a Color Overlay layer effect of light purple. The outline and veining layers both got a Color Overlay of deep purple.
I put a paper texture on the base of this wing. Then I used the inked outline to create a pink-inked effect.
The possible outcomes for Layer Your Own Brushes are practically endless! Another simple way to use these fairy wing brushes is to clip (Ctrl+G) a finished paper to the wing base.
ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brushes will help you create many unique and customized embellishments. Using color, pattern, and texture, you can layer the pieces together to make beautiful digital scrapbooking embellishments for your layouts and craft projects.

February is Posting Contest time on the Scrap Girls Forums! You can win a Scrap Girls Gift Certificate by simply being chatty in the Scrap Girls Forums and Gallery. This contest will run from February 1st when we post the thread until 11:59pm MT on February 29th.
To enter the Scrap Girls Forum Posting Contest, you MUST reply in the Posting Contest Thread with your CURRENT post count. Your post count is the number under your avatar that shows when you post. (NOTE: The number found on your profile is a number which is calculated differently.) During the month, post your fingers off! At Midnight on February 29th, we will calculate your post count based on the numbers posted in the game thread.
