This year I turn 41. Okay, who am I kidding? Tomorrow I turn 41. To me, age has always just been a number. I was never one to freak out when I hit the big "30" or even "40." I have always said you are as young as you feel.
Something is a little different this year, though. Over the last year, I've taken steps to change myself both physically and mentally. So, with another birthday just around the corner, I thought I would take the time to reflect on what I've done and accomplished over the last 41 years.
At the age of 20, I was living on my own, six-and-a-half hours away from home. I took the opportunity with a company that I worked for over the summer to move to Minneapolis and help start up an office there. There were a total of three of us who moved up there, so I wasn't totally alone. But it was a big change to go from little Lawson, Missouri, to downtown Minneapolis.
By 22, I was promoted and relocated to Nebraska. This time I was all on my own, and I walked into an office where I knew no one. It was a big transition... but I loved it. A couple of years later, I moved to Kansas with the same company.
When I was 25, I met this guy online. Who would have thought that within a few months, we would have talked, flown across the country to meet face-to-face a few times, or that I would pack up and move to California to live with him?
Four years later at 29, we were married, and a year later, we had our twin boys.
Within a year, we knew that we couldn't afford to raise the boys in California, plus we didn't have family close. We made the decision to move back to Missouri.
The next 10 years is where life got really crazy. We moved in with my parents and made the decision that I would stay home with the boys while my husband worked. I found this little hobby called digital scrapbooking to help me keep my sanity during the day, while watching my boys plus a few other children for whom I babysat. I slowly got better at digital scrapbooking, which led to a few layout teams – and ultimately to Scrap Girls. I started with Scrap Girls in 2005, and within a short period of time, I started helping Ro with customer service and doing some designing. The boys started school, which kept me busy enough, but then factor in the after-school activities and sports (especially within the last two years). We also bought our own house... which is a never-ending project.
In the last 10 years, I made new friends, reconnected with old friends I never thought I would keep in touch with, and drifted apart from others. I regained my confidence which I had somehow lost over time, and I found strength within that I never thought or knew was there.
Looking back, I see these last 41 years have been great and full of change. I can't wait to see what the next 41 bring to me!

How to Resize 12x12 Papers with 8.5x11 ScrapSimple Paper Templates
Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS X
I have a rather large stash of 12x12-inch digital scrapbooking papers, and many of them are heavily patterned, which means that sometimes resizing them down to 8.5x11 inches just doesn't work. The papers end up looking odd.
But you can fix this problem with some of our 8.5x11 ScrapSimple Paper Templates!
In this tutorial, I am using my ScrapSimple Paper Templates: 8.5x11 Fragmented which have very distinctive edges.
First, create a new 8.5x11-inch blank document, then open up a digital scrapbook paper and drag it over to your blank document.

Notice the bounding box extends out past your document. Grab one of the handles and while holding down the Shift key, resize the paper so that the bounding box doesn't extend quite so far.

Now, choose one of the paper templates and drag that over on top of the paper layer. Move the paper around under the template until you are happy with how it looks peeking out from under the template.

Next, layer another paper over the template and clip it using Option+Cmd+G (Mac) or Ctrl+Alt+G (PC).

Or for a different look, try using a ScrapSimple Tools - Styles or a color overlay.

Play with your Blending Modes in your Layers Palette until you are happy with the results.

Continue building your layout with photos, embellishments, and journaling.
