Resizing 8.5x11 to 8x10 for Printing and Framing
Many of us would love to print out our 8.5x11-inch layouts to frame and display on the wall, but the standard and most readily available frame size is 8x10 inches. In this article, I will show you a few ways to resize your 8.5x11 layouts so that you can print them at 8x10, trim, and place them in a frame!
For the first technique, open up a layout and save it as a JPG if you haven't already. Next, open up a new blank document sized at 8x10.
Now resize your layout to 10 inches in height. The width will end up being about 7.727 inches.
Next, drag your layout over to your blank 8x10 document and close your original resized layout without saving changes. Place your layout in the center of your new document. If you were to print this layout as is, it would print white where you see the black areas. (I added a black layer so you could see where the white would print out.) If your frame has a matte, this might work because the edges of your layout would be covered by the matte.
To fix this issue, I moved my layout all the way to the left. Then I grabbed the background paper from my original layout and dragged it to my 8x10 document and placed it under my layout layer. Since my paper wasn't heavily patterned, it worked like a charm!
If your layout has a patterned paper and this method won't work for you, try this one.
Open up your original PSD layout, make a copy, and then close the original. Resize to 10 inches in height like we did for the above method. Turn off the background layer by clicking on the Eye icon to the left of the layer.
Now select the remaining layers, right-click, and select "Merge Layers."
Next, drag this newly merged layer over to your blank 8x10 document.
Now open up your original PSD layout and drag the background over to your 8x10 document and place it under your merged layer.
Next, save your 8x10 document as a JPG, and it's ready for printing! Once you have printed it out, trim it, and place it in your frame. This makes a great gift!

Getting the Most Out of Your Money

One of the biggest reasons I was drawn to digital scrapbooking was the ability to create beautiful layouts without a huge price tag. With just a couple of products, you can easily express your creativity and beautifully showcase your photos.
Using just a few products, the elegant ScrapSimple Digital Layout Album Templates: 4x6 Fancy Edges templates and the beautiful Everyday Moments Collection Biggie, I created layouts to include in a 4x6-inch brag book album that I carry in my purse.
A great benefit of the 4x6-sized layouts is they can easily and inexpensively be printed at your local photo lab or kiosk.

East Coast High Noon Crop
Wednesday, January 18th - 10:00AM MST
Join April (April Showers) each Wednesday at 10am MT for the East Coast High Noon Crop. All coasts and time zones are welcome! These crops are designed to allow you to work on your own photos and themes, simply giving participants a one hour goal and a fun, new challenge each week. On January 18th, we'll do a Font Challenge. Use a font that you haven't used before in your layout. Create your layout and upload it to the special High Noon Crop Gallery. You'll be amazed what you can get done in just one hour, but there is no High Noon Sheriff timing you! Hope to see you in the chat room!
Heritage Crop & Chat
Thursday, January 19th - 6:00PM MST
Do you have boxes of old photos that you want to scrap? Is preserving a record of your family's heritage important to you? Come to the Heritage Crop at 6pm MT where we'll give you some basic scanning tips and teach you how you can use Scrapsimple Tools - Styles: Photo Fix 2201 and ScrapSimple Tools - Styles: Photo Fix 2202 to correct an old photo's color cast.
January Message Board Game: Jumpstart January!
It's time to kick off the new year with fun and focus on scrapbooking! And a few prizes thrown in never hurt, right? Join us on the message board this month for "Jumpstart January!" This is a message board game and challenge to start your year with fun and focus on taking time to scrapbook regularly despite the little speedbumps of life. When the month is over, you'll have completed several layouts and been challenged and treated to some fun along the way.
A member of the Welcoming Committee will post a mini-challenge/task every Monday through Saturday during January. Some tasks will require message board participation, email responses, or gallery posting. Those who complete all tasks and submit or post required participation by 11:59pm MT on January 31st will be entered in a drawing to win one of three $10 Gift Certificates to the Scrap Girls Boutique! Those who complete just the layouts will be entered in a drawing to win one of two $5 Gift Certificates. Those who complete just the speedbumps will be entered in a drawing for one of two $3 Gift Certificates. (Those who complete all tasks will have their name entered in all three drawings!)

January Monthly Layout Contest: With the beginning of a new year, many people set aside some time to set goals. It might be an exercise plan or establishing better eating habits. It might be getting your life more organized. Or maybe you set goals for your digital scrapbooking output for the year. Post your layouts in the January Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MST on January 31st. Be sure to list your layout's product credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery.
