Getting Acquainted with the Navigator Panel
Have you discovered the handy tool in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements called the Navigator panel? If not, then today you will! The Navigator panel will look different in Photoshop Elements (PSE), but it works essentially the same.
** Please note: I am only certain that the Navigator Panel is available in PSE versions 8 and 9.
You can open your Navigator panel by selecting Window> Navigator.
Notice that there is a mirror image of my layout in the Navigator window.
You can zoom in or out using the sliders at the bottom right of the Navigator panel. I believe the slider is on the top of the Navigator panel in PSE.
You can move the red square outline in the Navigator to zoom in on a specific area of your layout or project. This is particularly nice when working with smaller embellishments, elements, or text.
This handy little tool has really sped up my scrapbooking, and I hope it does the same for you!

A Cure for Scrapper's Block
Note: Tutorial created using Adobe Photoshop CS4 with Microsoft Windows Vista
It happens to all of us at one time or another. Finally, you have some distraction-free time to create a layout, but when you open up Photoshop (or your program of choice), your creative energy vanishes. Whenever I experience the dreaded "scrapper's block," I challenge myself to find one product in my stash and use it in a different way than it was originally intended to be used. This simple exercise will get you out of the "photos + papers+ embellishments" rut in no time! Let's take a look at how I used ScrapSimple Embellishment Templates: Mask Clusters – Natural in various ways on my layout.
Normally, I'd use only one of the six templates available, but this time, I combined the mask layers from two separate templates and layered them over each other to create a larger mask. You could merge the layers or leave them separate as I did.
Now my creative energy really started flowing. I decided I really liked the edging on each mask so I decided to use them as a border treatment for my layout. I chose three of the templates and dragged them to the edges of my layout canvas until I was satisfied with the placement. You could also rotate, resize, and even play with Opacity and Blending Modes until you get the desired result.
At this point, I was ready to add my papers and photos and embellishments. The layout came together really quickly after doing this exercise. I successfully worked through my scrapper's block – and you can, too! Sometimes, a change in perspective is all that's needed to release your inner creative energy!

Quote Challenge Crop
Monday, December 12th - 7:00PM MST
Come join Pat (PBarnes) for the Quote Challenge Crop at 7pm MT. Including a quote on your layout can be a touching and meaningful addition, especially if you use the quote to create your own word art. Here's how it will work. Early on Monday, Pat will post a thread on the Chat section of the board giving you the quote that you will use to make your own word art. It's not hard, and Pat will have a layout with a Word Art example in the gallery. Then we'll meet in the chat room to have fun, chat, and create our Word Art layout! Everyone can participate and create a layout, even if you can't make the chat. Hope to see you there!

December Message Board Game: BINGO!
Join us for an exciting game of BINGO on the Scrap Girls Forum during the month of December!! Pick 25 words from the list provided and send them in an email to [email protected] with a subject line that says "BINGO CARD - your Scrap Girls Message Board username" by Friday December 2 (Midnight MST) in order to play in the first round. The first round will begin on Saturday, December 3rd. If you miss the first round deadline, you can still play! Just send in your BINGO card at any time during the month, and you'll be eligible to begin playing when the next new round starts.
Each day (Monday through Saturday), a member of the Welcoming Committee will call five random words from the BINGO list. Match just 15 of those words to win a BINGO. You must be first to call "BINGO!" in the game thread to win that round. After a winner is called, the boards will be cleared and a new round will begin the following day.
Each winner will receive a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique! We like to see lots of winners, so please remember that each person can only win one round during the month. Have fun!

December Monthly Layout Contest: For the December Monthly Layout Contest, it's all about the gifts! Scrap a layout about a gift that was extra special, either one you gave or received. Or you can scrap about something or someone you consider to be a gift in your life. Share with us what makes that gift special!
