Sharing and Storing Layouts and Photos with Picasa

I don’t know about you but I love Google! Every time I turn around, they have something new for me to play with, and it’s usually always free! Gotta love that! Google has a great photo organization program called Picasa - you may have heard of it and maybe even use it. It’s a great place to upload photos and layouts to share and have as back-up copies in case of computer failure. You can download and find out more information about it here:

About Picasa 3.8 & Picasa Web Albums

Sharing and Storing Layouts and Photos with Picasa tutorial screen shot 1

Some of the features:

Web Albums - You can view your photos in slideshows, on a global map, and more!

Make People the Focus - Put the focus on the important people in your life by adding name tags to your photos. This makes it easy to look them up later by name.

Get Organized Fast - Once you install Picasa, it will automatically find all the photos on your computer and organize them for you.

Get Creative - Create your own video slideshows, photo collages, and screensavers.

Sharing - Publish your photos and layouts to share online with ease. Create albums to share privately with family and friends or make it a public album for all to enjoy.

Photo Editing - Picasa offers one-click fixes for red-eye, color adjustment, and lighting.

Geo-Tags - You can easily add geo-tags to your photos or layouts so you can remember where you took them using Google Maps.

1 GB of Free Storage - This service comes with 1 GB of free storage, which is equivalent to 4,000 wallpaper size photos. You can also purchase more storage starting at $5.00 a year for 20 GB (about 10,000 photos from a 5 MP camera).

Once you sign up for a free account and download the software, you can easily upload photos right from your computer within the Picasa application or directly into your online account.

Here, I have signed into my online account and hit the Upload Button. Then all I had to do was start dragging photos or layouts into the upload window. Once I was done, I hit the OK button at the bottom right of the screen.

Now I can view photos or layouts full screen or in a slideshow and add captions.

Below is the slideshow view; I really like the black background. It really makes the layout pop!

You can also share your photos or layouts via email or other options such as direct links, embedded slideshows, and RSS feed.

There is so much more you can do with this application, and Google has really made it easy to use and with such a nice, clean interface. What a great way to share your photos and layouts with family and friends and keep organized at the same time!

Happy Sharing!

Tips From The Pros Image

One Technique I Used on this Layout

Note: Tutorial created using Photoshop CS5 with a PC

We digital scrapbookers don't need ruled paper to achieve straight journaling lines, but it's fun to play with school supplies! Any time I use ruled paper, it brings back memories of a brand new notebook just waiting to be filled with notes, homework, or diary entries.

However, digital journaling on notebook paper can be a bit tricky unless you are “in the know.” I'm going to give you a tip or two to make it nearly foolproof. The beginner's method is to start a brand new line of journaling on each line of the ruled paper. This works well if you don't have very many lines to fill.

If you intend to fill up a whole sheet of ruled paper with text, try this instead: Make a text box by clicking and dragging out your desired shape with the Type Tool. A cursor will automatically appear inside the box once you've let go of the mouse button. Then, you can choose your font, size, and leading (pronounced ledd-ing - for those who want to really be in the know!).

The leading determines how much space is between each line of text. I find it easiest to write out all my journaling with the leading set to Auto, then select all (Ctrl+A) my journaling words and change the leading until it is perfectly spaced for the ruled paper.

Don't be afraid to pull that ruled digital paper out of your stash – now you know how to use it like a pro!

Games

November Message Board Game: Thankfulness Game!

It's time to give thanks for all the large and small blessings in our life! Each day during November, with the exception of Sundays, a member of the Welcoming Committee will post the name of an item for which we are thankful in the official game thread. To participate in the game, you will search the Scrap Girls Boutique and Gallery for layouts including that item, and then post a link to either the product or gallery page in the game thread.

Each member who links to a Boutique product layout will be entered into a drawing for one of three $3 Gift Certificates. Each member who links to a gallery layout (and leaves love on the layout) will be entered in a drawing for one of five $5 Gift Certificates!

For complete details, visit the Monthly Message Board Games folder on the Scrap Girls Forum.

Contests

November Monthly Layout Contest: This November, let's be a tourist in your own town! Show us around and tell us what makes the area you live in so special! Why do you live there? You can scrap about your town, city, county, or state. Share those layouts in the November Monthly Layout Gallery before Midnight MST on November 30th. Be sure to list your credits in the description or under the EXIF Properties. Two layouts will be selected to win a $10 Gift Card to the Scrap Girls Boutique!

Club Concepts Layout Contest: Post your new layout using the current club selection (either the Scrap Girls Club or the ScrapSimple Club) in our Scrap Girls Club Members Gallery or the ScrapSimple Club Members' Gallery. Be sure to list all of the Scrap Girls products you used. If your layout is chosen, it will be showcased as a Club Concepts layout winner, and you will win a $5 Gift Certificate to the Scrap Girls Boutique!
