Painting with Sam (and Bob Ross)
All my life I've considered myself to be somewhat of an artist, and I've experimented with many artistic mediums, but I've never really considered myself a "painter." I've worked with watercolors a bit and have used acrylics to create textures and abstracts, but I shied away from oils for some reason. I've also always been unsatisfied with the landscapes and other realistic paintings that I've attempted. I felt I just wasn't cut out for painting.
My sons are both quite talented artists, and they have generally focused on drawing both realistic and cartoon drawings. But about two years ago, my oldest son expressed an interest in learning more about painting. He has been actively studying and practicing working with watercolors and acrylics, and more recently, he decided to attempt oil painting. In his quest to improve his oil painting, he stumbled upon some old Bob Ross instructional painting videos online. He was soon painting "happy little bushes" along with Bob and learning techniques he could apply to his own paintings, while making some beautiful pieces in the meantime.
Seeing his success piqued my interest in oil paints, and I decided to give it a shot. Sam chose the painting for me, "Cabin by the Pond," and he guided me through the video, helped me prepare my paints, gave me tips on technique, and alternately paused and played the online video of Bob Ross's instruction. We laughed through my "happy mistakes" and mimicked Bob's mellow voice, and soon I had finished my very first oil painting.
Although my painting is terribly amateur, being able to actually work with the oils was a success for me. And making trees, clouds, and reflections was terribly fun. I'm looking forward to my next painting session, and Sam (and Bob) will hopefully be there to guide me through.
Favorite Product I've designed:
JIFFY Easy Page Album: 12 x 12 Cutting Garden
Even though our winters here in the South are generally mild, I’m always anxious for the arrival of spring for the beautiful flowers. Sadly, in my new home I have had very few flowers so far, but I recently planted bulbs so that I might enjoy a few blooms next year. My Cutting Garden album was made in honor of those very
blooms that I’ll be cutting next year.

Crop and Chat Schedule
At Scrap Girls, we have lots of fun crops and chats that are held weekly in our Chat Room. Sometimes, these chats and crops are special one-time events, while others are held on a weekly or monthly basis.
If you are interested in joining in the fun, there are several ways to find out when the next event will be held.
The first place to check would be your Scrap Girls Newsletter.
At the bottom of the newsletter you will see the What's Happening at Scrap Girls section. This will list all the crops and chats, along with the theme for the day, if there is one, and the time. Please note all times are Mountain Time. This is where you will also see any special games or contest we have going on.
The second place would be on the Scrap Girls Forum. Once you are there, you will see the calendar up across the tool bar.
Once you click on that, it will bring up the forum calendar. Click on any of the links in the date box to get more information.
Now that you have found a chat or crop that you would like to participate in, what's your next step? All of our chats and crops are held in our Chat Room. Make sure you are registered for the Message Board and logged in. Once you do this, you'll see the chat option across the top tool bar.
Once you click on that link, you should be directed to the Chat Room. You may have to update the latest version of Java in order to access the Chat Room. But all the links will be there, and you'll be prompted to download it.
I hope this helps you to discover the fun chats and crops that are being held at Scrap Girls. I hope to see you soon in the Chat Room!
